THE HILLBILLY CAT LIVE

As recorded at the Hilton Hotel showroom in Las Vegas, Nevada, August 23rd, 1970, dinner show.

Label: Graceland Records CD GR 7004-2

Graceland Records is planning a new CD release, a digipack with gorgeous photos and liner notes plus technical information. It features one of the best shows from his August Las Vegas engagement, namely the August 23rd, 1970 dinner show, taken from the original unspoiled – a tremendous audience recording! This recording was partly released in 1970 on vinyl as "The Hillbilly cat, Live", but it was a combined version of 2 different shows, August 23rd dinner and 24th Midnight show. The sound quality was great for the time the time. Rumors were that a professional recording (soundboard) was used. This is not the case; a stereo tape recorder was used directly in front of the center stage. Graceland Records was lucky enough to work with the original audiocassette. These days the possibilities to improve an audience tape are far greater than they were in 1970, so this recording now sounds significantly better than it did on the 1970 vinyl bootleg.

Now Finally for the first time ever on CD.

One of the first bootlegs ever, "THE HILLBILLY CAT LIVE"

A much sought-after double album from Canada, released back in 1970 with a mix of two shows, edited to create one powerhouse performance.

Now for the first time the complete tape recording of the first of these 2 shows: the August 23rd 1970 dinner show, which was only partly released on the double album and now in full, with only the last part of "Suspicious Minds" & "Can't help falling In Love" repaired with audio from the August 24th midnight show. Due to a little mistake the tape was turned off too fast, but he wrote down the set list.

This show is hilarious, wild and loose: Elvis was in great spirits & the Hollywood cameras were gone. The many false starts indicates that he was fooling around and having a great time doing it..

With probably the craziest intro ever to "Hound Dog", a wild and rocking version.

With great renditions of "Tiger Man" "That's all Right" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"

All phenomenal performances..

A fantastic and entertaining show where he combines humor and true entertainment.

A sparkling show with no weak spots. Elvis was on top of his game !

This is definitively one of the finest performances of this season.

Do not miss your chance to obtain another winner from Graceland records !

Short version:

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ON CD!

One of the very first bootlegs, first released in 1970:

THE HISTORIC ... THE HILLBILLY CAT "LIVE"!

THIS WAS A SOUGHT-AFTER DOUBLE LP FROM CANADA, FEATURING TWO 1970 VEGAS SHOWS (AUGUST 23 DS & AUGUST 24 MS) EDITED TOGETHER AS ONE POWERHOUSE PERFORMANCE.

MANY BELIEVED IT WAS A SOUNDBOARD RECORDING, BUT IT WAS SIMPLY A GREAT STEREO TAPE, MADE FROM A FRONT, CENTER TABLE.

NOW FOR THE FIRST TIME, HEAR IT STRAIGHT FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES, ENHANCED USING 21ST-CENTURY TECHNIQUES.

The AUGUST 23 DS is the COMPLETE TAPE, which was only partly released on the double album. Only the last part of "Suspicious Minds" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" were missed by the taper, and repaired using the AUGUST 24 MS.

This show is hilarious, a wild and loose Elvis was in great spirits, as the Hollywood cameras were gone. Listen for perhaps the most delicious intro ever to "Hound Dog," a wild and rocking version, for sure one of the best of this season. Also hear great renditions of "Tiger Man," "That's All Right" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"!

This is a fantastic and entertaining evening, where Elvis combined his unique humor with true entertaining -- a sparkling show with no weak spots. No wonder it became one of the first, and most legendary Elvis bootleg LPs!

As far as I know the show is still incomplete:

Missing introducing celibrities / missing introducing Mrs Parker after I've lost you / Missing Release me after Suspicious minds.

And an upgraded incomplete show taken from the LP Hillbilly Cat live was already available somewhere on CDr.
It sounds promising that the sound is more improved now and the show is more complete now.

Henk...this is the complete original tape how it was recorded...

Have a look at the boot LP...just face 1 and 2 is the show in question..
Faces 3 and 4 are August 24, MS...in no chronological order..
NO Release Me on August 23 DS..just on 24.8.MS

Just the end of 23.8.70 DS is missing on this new release..part of SM and Cant Help..they were
inserted from 24.8.70 MS....all other is there in complete form..

I had a poor sounding tape with the "complete" concert in the past; with your explanation it looks that the end was pasted from another concert. I never have checked it and meanwhile the tape is errased.

Henk..what you had was the show in question with the tagged end of August 24, MS after One Night. There Elvis did Release Me ..
colonel snow
On this new CD the last two tracks are from 24-08-74 M; it is not clear if Release me was performed after Suspicious minds because the tape ends here.
Also with the introducing of celibrities it will be clear if it was the same show. What I've read it seems to be a good sounding show on the CD.

Henk,..a few months ago I had an email conversation with Claude from Canada ..the guy who produced Hillbilly Cat Live back in 1970..and he gave me all dates and details of these 2 shows..therefore you can believe me..
colonel snow
I know you are a reliable source about concert information. You're doing a lot of work to separate crap from good shows.

Thank you for the kind words, my friend..!!!

I just listened to it..and I am pleased..great show..the sound is decent..another welcomed show from August 1970...
