i know that it has bin said before that jorgensen will not discuss what they have and don't have concerning soundboards , but i just can't help but wonder what is in their possession , would think that the fans are owed some info on what is in their hands , like if there are soundboards of pontiac new years , ashville shows from 75 along with many others, i think it would benefit them to tell us what they have , i'm tired of going through the tunzi sessions book and seeing so many titles/dates etc and would have thought that jorgensens book [a life in music] would have dealt with this but of course it didn't , why is my question and why all this secrecy , i just hope we see some great soundboard releases this year and the years to come.

I'm pretty sure they have more than what they'll publicly admit to.

Of course it's well known that there's some big time collectors and former band members/employees that have soundboard recordings in their posession. The question is - will they ever cough them up so the fans can hear them. This not only includes recordings of concerts, but rehearsals as well.

As for soundboard recorded concerts not being released, it appears that FTD has halted releasing anymore due to royalty payments being so expensive.

Every person who appeared on stage and participated in the show (music wise) must receive proper royalty compensation. This means it's much more expensive to produce, as compared to a studio session, which usually had a lesser # of musicians.

From what I gather, the tough part of this is finding out who was part of the "Orchestra". Of course it's well known who Elvis' personal band members and backing vocalists were, but the orchestra members varied a good bit it appears. It's also been mentioned that records of who the orchestra members were for each show are non-existant in many cases; therefore, a positive accounting for personel can't be made in regards to royalties.

Well, I do hope they we see more soundboards in the near future from FTD. I'm with Steve, I think they have more than what they are letting on.

But just thinking of Ashillve '75, and Pontian Michigan '75 etc makes me really excited. Those are essential and hope they are released eventually if they do indeed exist.

And like Steve said, there are members of the band, etc who have private soundboard tapes etc and most likely will never see the light of day which is very sad.

You have to wonder what the heck they are waiting for. I think that they do have more than they let on. I recall seeing a photo in one of the Tunzi sessions books showing the tapes in a shelving unit at BMG.....seems to me that they have a fair few (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

When everythings released in the import world, talking about soundboards, because audience recordings will be coming out for the next 10 years, I believe is when FTD will begin releasing more soundboards. From what I've heard the unreleased soundboards are coming harder and harder to find in the import world. I think we are close to the end with unreleased shows except for what FTD/BMG has.

Oh I'm certain of that Chris.

My take is that the whole thing resorts to money $$$..those who have these recordings want astronomical amounts for them, and on the flip side you have the expensive royalty payments that have to be made if they are released (as i mentioned earlier).

The result of either of these factors is we (fans) have to go without (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

That is very interesting. Hope copies of the soundboard indeed still exist. Tragic if not and the show was taped over.

Guess that they just don't won't to release everything all at once. That way they can make money for a long time to come if they release this stuff once in a blue moon.

I know what you mean Brad, but, when you think of how long ago it is since he passed away. How many years it even took them to start releasing FTDs and Bootlegs in vast quantities. How many years some of the longer time fans have been collecting. What is meant is that we are not getting any younger.

As many young fans are there are, still with each generation, you lose thousands of Elvis fans. So in that respect, they would make more money by releasing them while there are more to buy them.

But i still recall the 80s. Any other fans that do too.....will realise how spoilt we have become with FTD and imports alike. Used to be almost years apart getting good unreleased stuff back then. So i guess we do have to be thankful.

Legally FTD have to track down everyone on stage during a show and pay them royalties. This incurs high costs and with poor income from recent sounboard releases i think we will see very few concerts released by FTD now.It is rumoured the Unchained Melody release sales were very poor and this has brought an end to live shows for now

i sure hope that there is going to be some promising releases by the booters soon, as i would surly hate to think that we have heard the best and what is available, maybe ftd should have talks again with the guy who owns the indy 77 soundboard, i'm sure they could make a great deal of cash on such a release, until then i'll be supporting the booters alll the way.

Exactly, the peoples in possesion of these tapes is more than likely demanding a good deal of cash, more than FTD can pay. That said we can't really blaim the collector either since he/she had to pay up for the tape, also the value of the item will decrease alot when it has been released. So a collector will only sell with a good profit.

But I guess that BMG has enough Soundboards in their own vaults to please us for a while. And I think they still have a ace or two to give us, not only soundboards but reel to reel recorded concerts aswell.

Bruce Jackson,Elvis sound engineer owns a lot of soundboards but has stated he will not part with them for any amount of money as he feel's these recordings are spoiling Elvis' image due to the nature of the recording.Ernst has tried to buy some tapes from him but he refused,he is rumoured to own some July 75 soundboards and the famous Pittsburgh 31.12.76 show

Well this totally SUCKS imo! (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/rant.gif)

On a related note, Ernst mentioned recently that FTD will resume releasing shows recorded on SB. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/clap.gif)

BMG has about 274 soundboards, the majority from the '74 - '77 period. I agree with the above, they likely have a few surprises left to release as not all shows are documented (great example is 'Danny Boy' from Tucson '76). Although I'm disapointed that they at the moment aren't releasing any new soundboards I fully understand the royalties problem. Let's hope Joe Guercio has a good memory regarding who played when in his orchestra (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
