I agree that the book cover for the 'Standing Room Only' FTD cd should actually have been the CD cover. It is a fantastic shot of the Great Man live and doing what he does best. One of the best live shots ever.

Bruce Springsteen He was as big as the whole country itself, as big as the whole dream. He just embodied the essence of it and he was in mortal combat with the thing. Nothing will ever take the place of that guy. |

It was a cool idea from FTD to create the album that was planned for release in 72/73... but when I took the cd out just today for the first time in quite a long time I have to say I was somewhat dissapointed... not for the song material itself but the sound quality. ...I'm not one to badmouth FTD as this is actually probably the first time their release left me cold. Right after listening to the first cd I took out the "Burning Love" cd which was done basically in the same manner as "Standing Room Only" using the very same material too... and to my ears "Burning Love" sounded MUCH better... much clearer and balanced. I'm sure an "audiophile" could come up with a hundred reasons why the FTD could be better but I'd still probably prefer the BL platter... to me it just sounds better.
I also dig the BL's cover art more but this might be because of sentimental reasons... and because I can't stand reversed pictures nor blurry shots (see the FTD booklet...). |
