It was just VERNON ~ THE COLONEL ~ AND 'FACTORS'
WHEN IT ALL WENT MISSING, ALMOST EVERYONE WITH ANY
CONNECTION MUST HAVE TAKEN SOMETHING.

IT TOOK A FEW MONTHS FOR THEM TO DO THE 'INVENTORY'
DO YOU HAVE THAT BOOK ??? (Everyone???)

can't think of any other place to put this picture, its a nice shot...

Darn it! I've never won the lottery in time, would love the wheat suit and owl ring. Its just amazing how one of his jumpsuits seems to come up for sale annually.

There's a little bit missing from your link Marshie, so here's the link I could get working: http://www.gottahaverockandroll.com/Catalog.aspx

Marshie, I can't thank you enough for the heads-up ... not that I'm going to bid on it, but because the "lot detail" gives some interesting information of what actually happened to the suit AND the cape. ... As I have mentioned on the actual WHEAT SUIT thread, this is one of my very favourites when it comes to Elvis' 70's stage suits ... a real beauty with a unique design for it's time (1972)! And great to see that it's still in excellent condition ... hopefully it will go to someone who will continue to take good care for it... a very cool suit. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

I really don't understand why the Estate sold this rare 1971 Vegas suit ~ via Guernsey Vegas Auction in 1999

Did they have TWO or something ???

Not quite sure, but maybe they had some financial problems at the time? ....... As I wasn't yet a fan back then, I'm not entirely sure how much stuff did EPE actually sell during the 90's (weren't there at least 2 different auctions?), but I believe they did sell quite a few of the suits. As far as I know the ones they sold were suits that were basically "multiple originals"... which means they had at least two of the same suit in design, but in different colour. ---> Using the "Red Pinwheel" aka "Red Burning Love Suit" as an example... as we all know Graceland/EPE had several suits of the same design... at the moment they still have the white and black versions... so if they were in need for cash, they sold what they thought was "one of the many"... one just has to wonder why they picked out the most rare and unique version of the three??! .......... There are also several other suits that I believe were sold during the auctions, but there are also many suits of which I have no idea why/how they got in circulation... would you have any first-hand infos regarding to them, REX? I can compile a list of the suits that are still in private hands, or their whereabouts are unknown at the time, if there's any intrest...?

I cant believe EPE would sell such stuff. How desperate must they have been to sell them?? It's like BMG selling some tapes of outtakes because they needed some cash.

Thank you Rex, I never knew they'd sold this suit.

& J, it would be great if you could do the list of suits EPE don't own please.

You know...I don't have a problem with fans owning as much EP stuff as they can afford...but, when possible EPE should try to buy all they can. The multiples I understand as not AS important MAYBE... (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif)

All I can say is if it was MY dad's stuff...and MY dad was ELVIS...well...you all KNOW where it would be!!
(IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/LSHIC.gif) and...IF I had the money...it would all be here with me anyway!!! (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/taz.gif)

Even the ESTATE DIDN'T LIST THE JUMPSUITS IN NOVEMBER 1977,
INFACT THEY DON'T EVEN LIST A QUANTITY NUMBER, only 21 CAPES
something is very wrong about this Inventory,
hardly any garments upstairs, it must have all been removed by Priscilla,
Lisas garments haven't been listed, the Ladies powder room has no garments,
Elvis' Bedroom has none, although a fair bit is listed in the Walk in Wardrobe area,

The bulk of garments is listed in a
WARDROBE STORAGE BUILDING outside the House somewhere???

56 LONG WARDROBES
BUT ONLY LISTS JUST OVER 100 VARIOUS GARMENTS
THATS TWO PER WARDROBE, WHICH IS JUST SILLY

I've Optical character scanned 2 pages from the Inventory, only 21 capes, and no jumpsuits anywhere
can't believe I haven't noticed this before....

THE ESTATE OF ELVIS PRESLEY (1)
Master Dressing Room

Contents of closet # 1 containing;
1. SELECTION OF DRESSING ROBES AND SILK PAJAMAS Some elaborately sequined,
also with hats. (Approximately 60 pieces).
2. UPHOLSTERED REVOLVING DRESSING TABLE CHAIR In simulated black leather.
3. BLACK STRIPED COLOR TELEVISION
4. CERAMIC STATUETTE OF A TIGER Length: 36 inches
5. FIVE HUNTING KNIVES AND DAGGERS Four in leather scabbards.

Contents of closet #2 containing;

6. SELECTION OF JACKETS
Some in leather, leatherette, simulated fur etc. (30 pieces). Also with several pairs of boots and sneakers.
7. MODERNISTIC STEEL AND LEATHER SLING ARMCHAIR
8. STANDING SCALE :
By Continental
Contents of closets #’s4 and 5 containing:
9. GROUP OF JACKETS AND SHIRTS (Approximately 25 pieces). Together with several hats.
10. CIRCULAR BEDSTEAD WITH CANOPY
In white simulated fur with enclosed eight-track cassette and television and two speakers.

THE ESTATE OF ELVIS PRESLEY (2)
Wardrobe Storage Building
Containing approximately “fifty – six†long wardrobe Comprising:

1. ELEVEN JACKETS

2. TWENTY-ONE CAPES
3. THREE VESTS
Extensively decorated with semi-precious stones
and other ornaments of decoration.
4. APPROXIMATELY ONE-HUNDRED PAIRS OF MEN'S TROUSES
5. FIFTY BLOUSES AND JACKETS AND OTHER PERSONAL ITEMS
OF ATTIRE

6. THREE CARTONS OF SHOES
7. ONE CARTON OF BELTS
8. ONE CARTON OF TROUSES Some decorated.

and thats about it, so it went missing in that almost 3 month period,
you have to think everyone with access may have taken souvenirs !!!
or Vernon and / or Priscilla removed a lot of stuff from Graceland
The Death Tax bill was pretty high, and they had trouble raising the money to pay it.

Alright ... I already typed this thing once today, but my laptop froze when I was about to post it, so I had to start the whole thing over. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ... But here's a "short" list of the suits/capes that are in the hands of private collectors, or their whereabout are unknown for some reason or another... there are some that I'm not 100% sure of, so if anyone has any photo-evidence that EPE has displayed some of these somewhere along the way, let me know too. I'll use the designer given names for the suits, so if you're not familiar with them, check the "Jumpsuit Section" for more details. Enjoy.

- "Black Two-piece" "second version" (1969) ----- Like it seems to be the case with most of the other suits from '69, most likely owned by Graceland/EPE, just not displayed.
- "Black Cossack Top Two-piece" w/ red inserts (1969) ----- See above.
- "Thin Green Leaf" (1970) ----- I'm pretty sure I have once seen a picture of the suit on display... I have no idea if was a "Graceland display" or something else as I seem to have lost the picture.
- "Turquoise Concho" (1971) ----- as I have stated in the thread for the suit in "Jumpsuit Section", would love to know the whereabouts of this fantastic suit ... like the "Wheat Suit", this one also has a very unique design (the "wrap around" style).
- "Black Cisco Kid Two-piece w/ red shoulders" (1971) ----- In private hands ..... one of the suits (or the vest/jacket only) that was sold in EPE's auctions?
- "Black Cisco Kid Two-piece w/ light blue shouders" (1971)
- "Black Cisco kid Jumpsuit w/ green shoulders" (1971) ----- One of the suits that was sold in EPE's auctions in the 90's ... nowadays it's still in the hands of a well known mega-collector (SH).
- "White Fireworks" (1971) ----- Nowadays the suit, along with the cape, is owned a businessman from Memphis (LM).
- "Turquoise Concho Two-piece" (1972) ----- Graceland/EPE has had the cape on display, but do they also have the suit??
- "Royal Blue Fireworks" CAPE (1972) ----- Graceland/EPE has the suit, but where's the cape??
- "Red Pinwheel" (1972) ----- Another suit that was sold in EPE's auctions ..... Both, the suit and the cape are apparently owned by a guy from Chicago (MS).
- "Blue Nail" (1972) ----- Another suit (along with the cape?) that is owned by a well known mega-collector (SH). The original belt "lost" ...
- "Eyelet" (1972) ----- Elvis himself gave the suit, along with the cape, to his Memphis hairdresser Homer "Gil" Gilleland, who unfortunately had to sell the suit in early 90's.
- "Adonis Suit" (1972) ----- Vernon gave a permission to Kurt Russel to wear the actual suit during the filming of the 1979 movie "Elvis". Unfortunately, Vernon passed away before the suit was returned... it was put up for auction, and is still in private hands.
- "Wheat Suit" (1972) -----Check the opening post of this thread for more details.
- "Lucky Suit" (1972) ----- Apparently the suit along with it's cape are, or at least were owned by Hollywood Casino in Tunica(?).
- "Saturn Suit" (1972) ----- The suit (along with the cape?) is owned by a collector (HM).
- "Thundebird" CAPE+belt (1972) ----- During his June 30th, 1973 afternoon show, Elvis gave the (original) belt and the cape of this suit to a small kid in the audience, who was also dressed in a jumpsuit like Elvis'... I believe the family still owns them.
- "American Eagle" CAPE+belt (1973) ----- The above mentioned businessman from Memphis owns one of the "Aloha" capes, as well as one of the belts (LM).
- "Blue Starburst" CAPE+belt (1973) ----- Graceland/EPE has the actual suit, but where's the cape and the belt??
- "Nail Studded Suit" (1973) ----- The suit, along with the cape, are "lost" ie. possibly in the hands of private collectors...
- "Nail Mirrored Suit" (1973) ----- Elvis gave the suit to Jim Curtin somewhere around '74-'75... it has been since then auctioned, so it's in the hands of private collector. The cape and the belt are owned by Graceland/EPE.
- "Lava CAPE" (1973) ----- In the hands of private collectors ... I believe it was auctioned again awhile back.
- "Blue Rain CAPE" (1973) ----- Graceland/EPE has the suit and the belt... where's the cape??
- "Multi Colred Rain CAPE (1973) ----- Graceland/EPE has the suit and the cape, though a bit 'mixed up'...but where's the cape??
- "Aqua Blue Vine" (1973) ----- The suit is in private hands, the cape is owned by Graceland/EPE, the belt is "lost"...
- "Peacock" (1974) ----- Possibly the most famous "in-the-hands-of-a-private-collector" suit ... it has had many owners in the past, and it was yet again put up for auction last year... it sold for $300,000US.
- ALL the 1974 "Leather Two-pieces" ----- Possibly all in private hands.
- "White Leather Two-piece" (1975)
- "Navy Blue Two-piece" w/ 'scallops' on shoulders ----- the suit, along with it's belt are in private hands.
- "Navy Blue Two-piece" w/ arrows on shoulders (1975) ----- Another suit that is owned by above mentioned businessman from Memphis (LM).
- "Silver Phoenix" (1975) ----- One of the possible suits that EPE auctioned during the 90's. Are the belts still with Graceland/EPE??
- "Two-toned Street Suit" (1975)
- "White Egyptian Bird" (1975) ----- Another possible suit that EPE auctioned during the 90's ..... nowadays the suit is owned by a collector (HM).
- "Colorful Flame Suit" (1976) ----- One of the two basically identical suits that was most likely sold during the EPE auctions ... nowadays owned by a collector (HM).

There are also MANY (more) "missing" belts ... ---> Most of the macramé belts are "missing", but my guess is that they could be in EPE's vault's, they're just not displaying them...? Though I'm pretty sure that the "light blue macramé belt" is/was owned by Lichter ..... and I seem to recall seeing pictures where Elvis wore the "Nail Swirl" with it's original belt which 'broke down' during the show... did Elvis threw it in the audience? Here are also some others ..... "Lion Head Belt" from "Cisco Kid Jumpsuit" w/ lightblue shoulders, black & white "Fireworks belts", "White Pinwheel" belt, "Lightblue Paisley Two-piece" belt, original "Black Butterfly" belt, original "Blue Nail" belt, "Russian Eagle" belt, "Lucky" belts ("mirror" and the original), "Black Conquistador" belt, "Pharao" belt, "Fire" belt, the belt from 1973 "Snowflake", "Black Spanish "Flower" (w/ red stones) belt, 1973 "Arabian" belt and both "Egyptian Bird" belts... phew...

By no means this is the "completely complete" list, but it gives you a nice overview of the stuff that is not owned by EPE ... if anyone has any addtions/corrections, feel free to do so.

I had no idea things had got this bad... its a wonder they have any suits at Graceland.. It only partly explains why no jumpsuits in the Official
Inventory from 1977, they don't list any jumpsuits, and only 21 capes, the carton of Belts doesn't have a number, it really looks like
A LOT OF ELVIS CAPES LEFT THE BUILDING, NOT LONG AFTER ELVIS LEFT THE BUILDING FOR THE LAST TIME. wow...... REX

I can't bring myself to delete any of the above, so I'm just gonna leave it alone....

I believe the: - "American Eagle" CAPE+belt (1973) ----- The above mentioned businessman from Memphis owns one of the "Aloha" capes, as well as one of the belts (LM). is back at Graceland, as he donated them back... ?.. I believe i heard so..

http://www.elvisunique.com/cgi-local/frame...cgi?skuid=90580 here is a macrame belt from Lichters site. Dont know which suit this belonged to.. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/busted_cop.gif)

Of course you managed to pick out the one that would still need more investigating. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Ok... the person who catched THE "Aloha" cape at the end of the show when Elvis threw it into the audience was a journalist, Bruce Spinks... later on, he apparently sold the cape to another Elvis fan, Andrew Kern, who passed away in 1995. The members of his family auctioned his collection in Memphis where all the funds went for charity. The cape was not auctioned, but his parents gave it back to the estate as a gift in their sons name (thanks to PEP for the infos).
Now, there were two versions made of the "Aloha" suit, but I don't know how many capes (some sources say three) and belts there actually were, but as far as I know, the guy from Memphis still has one of the capes, as well as one of the belts.

On a side note, EPE apparently also auctioned off the original (long) "Aloha" cape, too...

Didn't Elvis give Ed Parker an Aloha cape and belt? Didn't he (Ed) have them in a display case in his home? It wasn't the long cape...it was one of the short ones.

It's hard to believe EPE has allowed so many of his things to get away from them!

Had i the money.....that Jumpsuit would sit very proudly in my ( imaginary now) Elvis Room. That said...i agree with you Marshie....in fact i would go a step further and say its outrageous that EPE allow these things to get away. They make enough money from all the loyal fans visiting Graceland every year. They should go after such items as the Jumpsuits when they come available and ensure that they are always there at Graceland for the fans to see.

One comprehensive list you have compiled there Jouni...respect to you my friend. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/notworthy.gif) I must admit that i had no idea there were so many (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/black_eye.gif)

Another thing that i found quite annoying ( whether rightly or wrongly ) was the so called Elvis section upstairs at the Hard Rock Cafe. I kinda got the impression that they were just wasted up there. I am not sure if that place does get massive amounts of fans visiting at the heights of Elvis week etc...but when we were there....we actually had to ask to go look upstairs and it was closed off.

James Burtons guitar amazed me. I know he donated it to them. But there it was...not even behind glass. I couldn't believe it. You could already see that it had been "tampered" with on a few occasions. So sad....when it clearly should have been part of some display closer to Graceland.

One of my all time favourite belts also hangs in the Cafe....this IMO should be in the museum along with the suits...Beautiful looking but again wasted IMO...hung quite high on the staircase (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif)
