Elvis-TheKingsCourt _ All Elvis _ My latest purchases

Posted by: kingofspades77 Feb 6 2008, 05:44 AM

Recently got two new books..one the Best Of Elvis..nice photo book with details about his biggest selling records, movies, documentaries etc.

The second is like 600 pages long titled Elvis His Life A-Z. It's filled with everything from his last will and testament, all songs he recorded, movies, concert dates from 54-77 and so on. An essential book i.m.o. thumbup.gif

Posted by: skelvis Feb 6 2008, 07:03 AM

Yes, His Life A-Z is a good one. I have it in red.

Posted by: colonel snow Feb 6 2008, 07:45 AM

the "black" edition is the first printing (1988); the "red" edition is the second updated printing (1992).
meanwhile we know a lot more about recording dates etc..
both books are outdated now but for certain facts they remain important.
it's a pity that there never was a third updated edition.

I've send a lot of additional information to upgrade the "third" book to Steve Tamerius but for some reason I never got an answer.

My latest purchases was Elvis UK 2 and Elvis The Biography by Jerry Hopkins and the Aloha form Hawaii Special Edition Region 2 DVD. I have Region 0 Aloha but wanted a Region 2 version.

Posted by: Elvis_Priestly Feb 6 2008, 12:08 PM

Love that Elvis A-Z Brad, have the 1988 edition which I got in 1990 as a gift. It's beside me here at my desk all the time and is my most often referred to reference book.

Posted by: C.C.Rider Feb 6 2008, 01:25 PM

I have a couple of different A-Z's, with different covers, info and authors. Trouble is, some of the information varies from book to book. Make for great reference books, as long as, on occasions, you don't read too much into them. undecided.gif

I do also Conor notworthy2.gif

Always keep it close by when I need some type of information. It is indeed a great reference book thumbup.gif

Picked this 2 book set up off ebay earlier for only 15 dollars. Last Train To Memphis and Careless Love Can't wait to get it notworthy2.gif notworthy2.gif I've not read neither one of them so I am excited, hopefully will discover some things I didn't know about already!!

The A - Z book is one of my all time favorites thumbup.gif

I happen to have both the 1988 and the 1992 upgraded version, and let me tell you - they've come in mighty handy over the years.

Hope they'll do another upgrade, especially with so much more information that's come out in the past 16 years.

Posted by: kingofspades77 Feb 7 2008, 10:03 PM

I agree Steve it does come in very handy!! thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Feb 11 2008, 04:19 PM

It's old news but I just got this DVD today.
This DVD is a Region 0 PAL version.
The sound level is very good.
Elvis says after Hound Dog he was 12 years old with sideburns when he recorded Hound Dog.
Don't remember seeing that on the deluxe DVD.

Posted by: NightRider Feb 11 2008, 08:44 PM

For whatever reason, i think that this has better sound than the delux version undecided.gif

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Feb 13 2008, 09:15 PM

I bought the new Charro DVD today. I hope it's better than the 2003 release.

Posted by: TCBEP Feb 13 2008, 09:34 PM

This baby arrived through the letterbox today. I've now got both B.T.I dvd's and highly recommend them.

I also picked up both B.T.I books in the past month or so.

Really fantastic stuff and essential for any fan (funds permitting of course)!!

I wanted the new one. I thought this was going to be a better release.
Have to wait until next week.
The blue cover Charro isn't released until June 2008.
The one I bought was the cheapest new at the time.

I got the Charro DVD today. I find out it's a different cover to the one advertised. This is a Video International copy. I watched this film this morning. The makers apologise for the poor film quality and it's like watching old spaghetti westerns in black and white. The volume is very good. I don't know if the new Charro DVD is any better but I can watch this version.

Sure that chris will be interested to hear that Frank. undecided.gif

The Warner release is great quality. Shame that these sort of releases can't be stopped and save fans some money.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Feb 22 2008, 02:08 PM

I buy the DVD's when they are at their cheapest.
You could buy 4 for £20 if you wait for price to drop.

Great collectioj you're building up there Brad. Its great to listen to Elvis while reading them. I often listen to whatever era the chapters I'm reading are based on. Can be good to read the interesting stories behind what your listening to, can also lead to questions like "what are you talking about?" when what you're listening to and what you are reading seem at odds. E.g. when I was listening to the Raised on Rock FTD and reading the relevant section in the Jorgensen book.

Nice, Chris.....The Paper Sleeve collection is just about the best in sound, IMO. I have a couple of them, and have bid on Gold Records Volume 4.

Just need a couple more of the Cardboard collection to complete them. There are pretty much the only versions (of original releases) that i play nowadays notworthy.gif

This week I bought the Jerry Schilling book Me and a Guy Named Elvis.
Good Times 10 track CD from the Original Elvis Presley Collection.
I have been collecting some of the Original collection but not all of them are available on-line.

My town held a charity book sale last week and I bought three Elvis hardbacks that I didn't already have:
Becky Yancey - My Life with Elvis
Peter Haining - Elvis in Private

and coming more up to date: The Colonel by Alanna Nash

Combined price only £3.80 - so it was nice to get something that didn't go straight on the credit card bill. wiggle.gif

This film is about 1hr 45 minutes or more.

Found this one on ebay.

Weird compilation; i never kwew it was released!!
"Classic love ballads" is a Canadian cd from 1986 is superb sound.
Made in en for that market.
Those 80's Cd's certainly sound awesome!!

It's by the "Quality special products" label ascociated with DINO.

The tittle is wrong chosen, thet could have left the word "Love" of,since a few tracks are not that "love" at all!!
Coverart is so typical eighties and the (small) liner notes indicates wich song comes from what album,a nice touch.
Tracklist is

Can't help falling in love-In the getto-Moody blue-Suspicion-Are you lonsome tonight-The girl of my best friend
Don't-Wooden heart-It's now or never-The wonder of you-There goes my everything-Crying in the chapel
My boy-It's<only love-Don't cry daddy-Hawaiian wedding song-Suspicious minds-My way.

All the songs are released by now,and have been for years in the collection now.
But to me it's a fantastic line up with original songs for a cd from those early cd years.
Does anyone know more of it?
Why RCA gave it out to another label?

I'm in the retro mood lately!! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Johan

I have the original cassette of that cd, i got it in 1985 and it was called "Ballads" and released by Telstar. It was even advertised on television at the time. Has always been a favourite of mine.

Posted by: kwimper Apr 12 2008, 01:21 AM

Just bought the "Tupelo's Own" DVD without the book at JB Hi-Fi. Great stuff!

Also, I noticed some people are buying the "Man And His Music" magazines. Ebay is a good place to try for the back issues as I picked up the entire set in perfect condition for a really good price a few months ago.

Thank you for the additonal information!!
I remember that one..seen it in the shops at the time, but didn't buy it then, found it an ugly cover then,it turned me off... rubberface.gif
BTW,is TELSTAR not a Dutch company?
Have other recordings by the label from other artists...
From a Dutch album to a Canadian cd...

On cd it's a real hoot, and sure brings back some memories like the one you described!

I don't think that it is rare but was only released in Japan so not huge quantities available, but probably printed in the 1000's. I have 2 copies if you are interested.

Comes in a slipcase with small photo of the Japanese Prime Minister with Elvis - fake photo of course.

It was specially comissioned for/by the PM and is the only time that BMG ever gave permission for this type of cd.
The track list is pretty good too.

Two budget releases with 50's songs.
I know we all have them a million of times, but the picture disc is lovely and the sound great too.
For 3€ each,it's cheap too.

It's obvious those "new" releases all "out of copyright " recordings...
But it's a great way to introduce those classics at a very low price to the casual buyer and the die hard fan or cd collector ofcourse.. victory.gif

in the great stores there are dozens of that kind CD's available with tracks from 1955 till 1957 in the free public domain. I forgot all the titles but I doubt if the sound is improved.
I expect in the next years the market will be overflowed with this music form the 50's/early 60's.
even it is very cheap (a few euro's sometimes) I don't buy CD's for the nice cover but for the music.

Well it's not improved compared to the originals, that's where the source comes from most likely.
On the other hand,it's a cheap way to collect nice looking compilation cd's.
I find the free public domain law after 50 years good for us fans and the general public.
More to choose from.
BMG has lost his monopoly of early Elvis.
Remember the many Hayride cd's,and sometimes it has a real gem.

I support this kind of cd's,for it's price they are very enjoyable, even with the repetition in tracks. thumbup.gif

The imports are more ofcourse, but are well worth the price.
All in all, much recordings at a decent pretty low price!!

Looking forward to the coming years!!

Had that one for some time now. There are two versions. The first ones being 4 separate Jewel cases in a sleeve box, the second being all 4 discs in a case (without the sleeve).

Great compilations though. Varied tracks and some you don't always see on compilations. The mainstream Sony/BMG should take note whistling.gif as this was only available through mail order when it came out.

How does it sounds?
Arrangement a la Presley or different?

Posted by: colonel snow Jul 25 2008, 02:21 PM

getting new songs was difficult for Elvis so he foud some British songwriters.

the song is basicly the same but now performed by a group; the arrangement is a little bit different. Elvis sings the song in his way.

This was my recent purchase.

I have 3 Pot Luck with Elvis albums.

I have the Orange label RCA Victor Mono LP.
2nd is the remastered version.
3rd is the 12 track version from the original collection.

I am trying to get the full set.

Pot Luck has always been a favorite if mine, Frank.......I also still have my vinly LP, as well as the remastered CD with the "Bonus Tracks", as well as my favorite edition, the Deluxe FTD 7" 2-CD set, definitely one worth saving for! thumbup.gif

Thanks Barry. You just reminded me I got the FTD Pot Luck with Elvis as well. That makes it four albums.
The Mono LP I got in 1970 and was very lucky to get it as mono LP's were being deleted from the catalogue back then.

I bought the Elvis 68 TV Special from the Original Elvis Presley Collection last week and got it today.
This is not the original vinyl release. This is the remastered version with 8 tracks and extra tracks.
I thought it was supposed to be original album releases.
I have seen the full boxset going for £199 on the Amazon.
Too much for my way of buying. I have 16 CD's from this set so far.

It's been a long while since I bought anything.

But a couple of weeks ago i came across an old photoalbum (i think it was printed around the CBS 1977 Special) and some newspaper pages from late 1977...all for 5 Euros.

Then last Sunday Momma saw a few Elvis Monthly Annual Editions from the 60's 70's & 80's . They were in pristine condition but apparently they were selling for 20 Euros each and we hesitated...I'm still thinking about them.

I've never seen a book without errors; some facts came to daylights after a book was printed. In these days you can find a lot more information then in the old days.
I have the book Elvis His live From A to Z by Steve Tamerius ( 2 editions with a black cover = 1st and with the red cover = 2nd edition) but these books are outdated now altough you'll find a lot of info there.
I've send a lot of information to Steve Tamerius through the years but it was not used and a third edition is never released.

Nice find, Frank.....This CD has been delayed here in the states until at least the middle of December. Did you order "I Got Lucky" also??

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Nov 29 2008, 08:35 AM

No I have not ordered I Got Lucky album.

Like all national working places they are thinking of postal strike. Whether this will happen soon. This might hold up all deliveries. I don't know what the government is up to. It's like they are trying to close all Royal Mail down.
This is why I am not going to order too much at the moment.

I cently bought this CD by Gerald Nelson titled "Songs I wrote for Elvis". Besides the songs Elvis has recording from this songwritter there were versions which did n't make it to a record by Elvis like:
Easy come easy go - Clambake - Dominic - I'll take love - Double trouble. Elvis recorded versions from other songwriters.

Certainly Dominic is much better; the other movie songs are like all movie songs especially written for scenes in the movie and not shocking. Nice to have heard these unused versions. When you "google" for Gerald Nelson / demo versions etc you come to a site and can hear 30 sec. portions of these songs. There are titles which hadn't make it all for an Elvis recording too on this CD.

Saw various LPs and Elvis Monthly Annuals.

I had to pick Elvis Country, Burning Love & Hits, Rock & Roll No2, You'll Never Walk Alone & the 1974 & 75 Annuals. Paid Eur100, I know it's too much but I couldn't help it when I saw such items in perfect condition right in front of me.

Hi Susan, I would think twice about buying any more "stamped" Vegas items?, I have been collecting Vegas/Tour memorabilia for years and these "stamped" items have only "just started to turn up" with "In Person" "Elvis now" and so on. A guy in Germany is the main seller.
Hope you dont mind, but many other collectors have said the same. busted_cop.gif

A lot of the frames I make, I am a artist and frame my own Elvis paintings as well, The glass I have cut for me.
Here is the cabinet, some of the items in it I brought back from Vegas 74 ashtray, menu, mags, medalion (only sold in 74/hilton) and a staw that little Lisa chewed on at the closing show.

@vegas pictures will be send by tomorrow got some news concerning the poster.

Just got the Poster yesterday and showed it a friend of mine who works in a printing factory and he told me that the poster itself was not stamped.

But the stamping must be done on a photo with a glossy surface that`s why the stamping is blurred also when you stamp something you can see it on the paper because you need some pressure to press the stamper this leaves marks on the paper which is visual when checking very close.

This is also not the case on the paper and logical to me. When they gave that away at the hilton for promotion I don`t think they would have stamped a few hundred pictures. May they had a glossy picture stamped and gave this to a printer.
He also said that the paper and the print is indeed very old.

I know it's easy to compile a cdr of it,or copy the album on cdr(and i did) but to have it original,it's a true memory revival!

Lots of new imports too,but when i have more time i put them in the right section.

Made in the U.S in 1956 by vari vue. Should say 1956 epe on the back if it is an original. Can be valuable. Though ive seen them sell for 15-20$. I would guess an original would be worth around 75-100$

Vegas 74 is right . The stamped items are not real. All of a sudden they are everywhere. There is one guy in the states who has a website that is selling them and they are coming out of Germany . Please people save your money when you see this stuff. what bothers me is they ruin original items just to make a few more bucks.

Made in the U.S in 1956 by vari vue. Should say 1956 epe on the back if it is an original. Can be valuable. Though ive seen them sell for 15-20$. I would guess an original would be worth around 75-100$

Thanks, for letting me know Elvisnow1969. That's not too bad, I was hoping it was worth more, but still I love it thumbup.gif

Super nice Franny smile.gif I had one of these a while ago. I guess what its worth, and what people are willing to pay for it is two different things.. The most important thing is not to get ripped off and be happy with the stuff you got. in my opinion.
