Elvis smoked your cigars, but I don't know if he liked to smoke a lot.
I found these articles on the net: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Presley-Elvis-5...-Army-Dates.htm http://en.allexperts.com/q/Presley-Elvis-5...is-smoker-1.htm Help me on this question. Thanks! |

I only new elvis smoked cigars now and then...i never seen him with a cig, in a ansewr to the second comment the lady says why would elvis keep it a secret if smoking was part of the norm in them days...i think its because he would not have wanted to be a bad role model to his fans!

I grew up always believing ELVIS was a non-smoker..... as REX said it was the image given to us fans by his PR people.
The few times there was glimpses of him smoking I figured was a fluke. I still never had the impression ELVIS was addicted or a chain smoker.....but that it was an occassional thing. I used to freak out in Vegas seeing all the smoke in the Hilton showroom and thinking about him inhaling THAT into himself every night as he sang. You see lots of pictures with everyone around him smoking, but much fewer pictures of him smoking.(IMG:http://smiley.net.ru/bigoth0736.gif) |

I've also always been under the impression that EP wasn't a 'regular' smoker... but it was more of an occasional thing, 'some times more often than other times'. ... Though not that much, there are pictures all through he's career from quite early on of him with a cigar/cigarillo/cigarette in his mouth... I couldn't locate the picture, but if my memory serves me, the earliest shot I've seen of EP with a cigarette is from around mid '55(?)... ...there's a stroy that Elvis once bought a picture of himself back from a fan who snapped it while he was smoking, so Gladys wouldn't see it... I thought it might've been this particular picture (yep, the one which I couldn't locate right now), if there's even any truth to the story...
But no doubt, Elvis did take the occasional puff... all throughout he's career.

Seen many pictures of him with Cigars....but not that many with Cigarettes...so assumed that he was mainly a Cigar man. I would think...like has been already suggested...that he was more of a smoker than he liked the public to know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif)

I think you're right, Chris. ... Judging by pictures I have, EP was mostly for cigars from the (mid?) 60's forward, and the cigarette/cigarillo thing was more of a 50's/early 60's thing... not that it matters anything, that's just the feeling I got from the pictures I have... but I'd also say he was indeed more of a cigar man...
Here's the footage 'col. snow' posted earlier... filmed at Sam Philips' house, apparently in easter 1957, and according to the guy who filmed the footage (Chuck Staley), EP is smoking a cigarillo... note that when Elvis first sees that he's on camera, he hides the smoke. ... Definitely a cool piece of film... as a side note, the guy with the ape mask is Harry Fitzius... he worked with Chuck. |

Bruce Springsteen He was as big as the whole country itself, as big as the whole dream. He just embodied the essence of it and he was in mortal combat with the thing. Nothing will ever take the place of that guy. |

Thats true....all that smoke in the Hilton must of been bad for Elvis as you can see in this pic......but! in the out takes from TTWII just before Elvis sings "Bridge Over Troubled Water" he reaches out and takes a cigarette and takes a quick puff! .....sorry the pics are not clear, the film is clear but my camera is not!! Great captures here, never have I seen Elvis taking a hit while onstage. I know he was a very big fan of cigars, especially in his later years, as well documented in many candid photo's 1975-77 circa. QUOTE
