great FTD! really, an essential

bitter they are, harder they fall kicks it off, and we get some false starts becoz Elvis phone and dog keep playing up, giving this cd a funny start, but it becomes anything but when we start this beautiful sad song

i did'nt really care for this version of 'she thinks i still care', but its special and intimate in a way. the last farewell is a beautiful song, but was ruined when released becoz of the crappy overdubs, but here its sound absolutely beautiful

solitaire was always a song i liked, and it sounds good here. though Elvis holds back a bit on this version, its still a beautiful emotional song. i'll never fall in love again is another song i liked, and except for the bad piano, this version is good, but not as good as the album release. Elvis does'nt go as high as he does on that, but still good.

then moody blue, one of my fave songs, which i've sung quite a lot, but never like Elvis does. anyway the first take here is good, but Elvis stuff the words up after the first chorus, and Elvis starts changing the words to Italian and includes the word 'muttaf###er' in this. the second trie Elvis is a bit weak, but its good to hear the song extended

then a rocking version of 'for the heart, which is done with acoustic guitar for this, and Elvis hits higher notes than the album cut. then another fave of mine, hurt, Elvis starts with the word IIIIII'M!, but holds back for another take, which is different but touching with Elvis ending on falsetto on the higher parts, a good effect.

then danny boy, a song which i have made people cry with, and won the singing section of a talent quest as well. Elvis trys it in the key it is heard on the album, but different from the one he had in mind, but even better i'm sure. never again is a song that makes me cry when i sing it, and it sounds beautiful here, but the album cut is better

then love coming down, which sounds fine here, then blue eyes crying in the rain, which does'nt start off with the drums, but straight in to James Burtons guitar, good version here.

then we fast forward to october 76, and we hear Elvis start off with ' its easy for you' by saying 'i get carried away very easily, emotional son of a bitch', and Elvis goes in to a touching version of 'its easy for you', an autobiographical song of his divorce. then rocking version of 'way down, and it starts of with a guitar intro instead of the usual heavy intro we have heard, and Elvis repeats the last verse twice, but he does'nt sing it.

then a real highlight, pledging my love, the uncut master, 5 minutes of Elvis digging in to this song, it is bliss!then emotional version of 'he'll have to go, and abonus of the instrumental song to which Elvis never recorded 'there a fire down below', i have overdubbed this song on tape, and someday hope to share with you my version. then a suprise, the last few seconds of the edited studio version of america, the beautiful, what a version it must have been!

verdict: this is a touching Elvis album everyone should have!

Moody Blue is one of my favorite albums by Elvis for the reasons of Way Down, Moody Blue, Pledging My Love, Hurt, Unchained Melody and If You Love Me Let Me Know mostly(I am referring to the Moodly Blue with extra bonus tracks by the way). The other songs are a bit too slow and I have to be in the right mood or perhaps "MOODY BLUE" but the ones I mentioned I am always in the mood for. So it was with great surprise that I saw the Jungle Room Sessions FTD release at the CD shop across from Graceland back in 2000, and coincidently my first trip to Graceland. I did not buy the CD but my friend did, he had more money at the time...and those damn CDs are so over priced at $24.99. If they were half that I would actually buy them all, but not at that price. Well, I am getting carried away here.

Yes, a great FTD release by the way. I only wish they had a JUNGLE ROOM SESSIONS DVD with footage of the actual sessions...WOULD'NT THAT BE TO DIE FOR.... (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/woohoo.gif)

Yes, I have sung Moody Blue at Karaoke before and it actually sounded pretty good I must say. I don't think many people enjoyed it because they did not realize who originally sang it...or was I really just that bad... (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/rubberface.gif)

the following complete takes are unreleased:
She thinks I still care - take 6-12-14-16
I'll never fall in love again - take 10-11 after the master take
Blue eyes crying in the rain - take 1
America - take 2 (errased???)

about other complete takes is nothing known but a lot of the takes are false starts or incomplete versions.
perhaps the remaining takes will be used with the 50th annyversary or an upgraded album.

Thanks for the updates Col. Snow. In any case, Ernst has said on a few occasions that there isn't enough material for a vol. 2 of JRS.

-----------------------------

Agrew with the rest, this is one of my favorite FTD releases.

Give the world a smile

Between take 2 & take 3 of For the the heart Elvis sings an one liner of this gospel song; the original version was recorded on 20-10-27 by The Stamps Quartet (Victor 21072); however I think the version by The Blackwoord Brothers as recorded late 1959 for the LP Sunday meeting time (Skylite 5966) is more familiar to Elvis.
