As far as Cd collecting goes, one thing that does interest me are the first pressings of CDs. Mostly those released in the 80s. Some, are becoming very hard to come by.

Like a numbskull, I would typically give away my original CD's to friends or family whenever a new/upgraded/remastered edition would be issued. I would like any of the first pressing cds. Do I need some. I looking for any Elvis CD that I don't have. I don't have too many of the official RCA cds. I have mostly of the import cds.

Just yesterday I got off of Ebay the original cd of Burning In Birmingham and a few days before that Event Number 8. Even though they are not RCA cds I finally got those. I had them as cd-rs but now I can throw those CD-Rs away in the trash now since I got the real cds.

I have collected CDs since they first came out. Official and otherwise. But i was picky at what i bought along the way. Like many people, i couldn't and still can't afford everything. I do, however still look out for many first pressings that i don't have when i have the chance. For example, i did have 13 first pressings of Aloha from Hawaii from around the world. Having done that, i wondered if that was the right way to do it ( as i was missing out on other releases of course ). I have now trimmed that down to around 5 or 6...and used the cash to purchase other things. But i will admit that the ones that i traded or sold, i would love to get them back again.

I think its a passion for those interested in starting to collect them. Luckily, not everyone out there knows of the increased interest and indeed value of some of these. You can find some of them on e-bay at times....at very reasonable prices. But, be warned.....some of them do suffer from the dreaded CD Rot. ( Reconsider Baby a prime example ). I for one never buy anything for the collection with thoughts of it's perceived value. I buy what I like and or want and if it go's up in value fine, if on the other hand it doe's not hold or increase in monetary terms, it still holds a personal value to me. Price guides are somewhat misleading. All well and fine for one of them to state that record/cd is worth x amount of dollars, but it's more of a fact of finding the right person at the right time, who happens to be in the market for said item. Just try selling any collection of all your items at once... You would never get to top price for all items as they are listed iny any guide. So buy what you like and can afford... You'll be much happier!!!!

There are different sorts of collectors i guess. Those that buy what they want just because they enjoy the music and rarely buy stuff just for the sake of having it......... and those that do that, but also just collect different pressings from a collecting point of view. I must admit that there are many CDs i have that i have never played. Simply because i already have the songs on other albums, maybe even in better sound quality. But i still enjoy hunting for CDs not in my collection. The same can be said for Vinyl collectors i suppose....no real point in buying many of those nowadays..but people still do.

i stilll have myfirst cd - the top ten hits[ in the long box, remember those], and some japanese ones like 1969 , golden hits , 50,0000 fans can't be..... all these from 86 i believe, and almost every boot from 88-present even though my source of boot cd 's has shut down, again anyone out there that can send me adress of trustworthy boot dealer i would appreciate, many thanx.

I never bought the remasterd versions..

So I can't judge them.

Till the day I still try to get first pressings of every new CD.

That is true, The first pressings did started coming out in 1984. Most of them was made in Japan. Those are the ones that is worth some money. Those gets harder to find each and every year. Some you can get a good price if lucky.

Reconsider Baby, Always On My Mind, and Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis just to name a few. I have two of those and got them for nothing. The person didn't want them and I say "I'll take them". Later on they try to get them back and I say nope. I had about five witnessess at the time so he couldn't do anything at all.

It says it was the first CD set issued in not only Europe but the world and was pressed in Germany. Its a six page article by Gordon Minto and John Towson. Any of you have that one?

i did own the frist pressing of Elvis's cds but i never like the sound on them, so i trade them for some Elvis vinyls and still have them today.

i do have however Elvis music on box set's like the 50s 60s 70s and they sound great and i have
the 2 cd set of the 60s 2 the command performance that has some of his movie tracks.
and i have the Peace in the valley the complete Gospel recordings.

but i still wish bmg to finsh the 70 sets and his movie set.

but it well never happend.

but i am gald i still have my vinyl and my good turntable to play them on.

They where pressed in germany and they have all have a Number (limmet edition)

You now pay allot of money for the gold set and a littel less for the silver set.

I am lucky and have them boght.

Being a vinyl collector and a bit sad in that i have spent half my life trying to collect all the variation's and pressing's

I was late to catch on to the cd thing, although anything new Elvis that came out i bought on both format's

and just stored the cd's away at the time (sad i know) dont think i bought a cd player untill a new Album came out on cd only

So i can't see myself chasing down first issue's of cd's although i do have a great many of the legit label one's

as to boot's/import's whatever you want to call them cdr's or download's that i burn myself

suit me fine and with the great cover's you guy's make the collection look's superb

plus with a wife and kid's one at collage, fund's are limited so i buy what i need or want not just because it's out there

i agree with you there, the 70's masters were not complete, as the 50's/60's , they contained all studio recordings, i among many felt that the 70's set should have contained every track masters from 70-77, even if the set would contain 7-8 discs so what[ernst said in the man and his music , that to have a complete 70's set it would have to contain between 8-9 discs and the price would be to much and fans would not buy it] again the whole idea behind the masters series was to include every master track, i sure wish they would honor their commitments.

The second pressing of that was a Silver box set. Which is valued ( whilst still high ) well below the Gold one.
