George Harrison, who wrote the song an recorded it, first met Elvis at his Bel Air home on friday night, August 27, 1965.
But he also visited Elvis backstage in Las Vegas several times. Together with John Lennon and Bob Dylan they attended Elvis's MSG Matinee Performance, June 10, 1972. From June 1969 to August 1974 Elvis rehearsed for many diffrent engagements most notably Las Vegas showroom openings. It is belived that "My Sweet Lord" was one of the songs being rehearsed. Can we believe this? -------------------- |

The rumour is Elvis sang the song a couple of times during rehearsals between January 17-23 1971.There is no evidence written or audio to prove this at the moment so for now its just fanciful wishes (probably on most fans parts)

It is very unclear what is available on tape for rehearsals outside of T.T.W.I.I and On Tour,it was rumoured last year Ernst purchased a good sounding rehearsal tape from 1971 but nothing more was mentioned or heard. And if the story behind the Aug 1974 rehearsal tapes is correct and the tapes ordered destroyed and this was done for all rehearsal tapes then there is a good chance nothing else is available.
The fair sounding rehearsal tape from July-Aug 1972 released on the No Fooling Around boot is also said to be missing as the owner of the tape tried to sell it to RCA and they showed no interest and he ended up selling part of the tape to a well known collector and from there ended up on the import market. The story was the owner of the tape was a janitor/maintenance man at the Hilton and was around during the rehearsals and one day taped one from somewhere in the showroom secretly. It was said there was a lot more on the tape but due to lack of interest the tape now seems to be gone forever. |

Lack of interest?!? Grrrrrr.... I hope more rehearsals show up. I know some are almost certainly in private hands, including some from 1969. These rehearsals potentially offer us our last great hope for significant unreleased material. |
