For collecting 1st pressings you have to make a study about the record; the real 1st pressing is is with A1 in the lead-out groove but you'll find for the first release all kind of combinations like A2 : C3 etc
This means: A 1 = first mold made from the first master; A 3 = third mold made from the first master; C 2 = second mold made from the third master; after pressing several thousands records the mold has to be replaced because it looses quality. For the US pressings you can see in which factory they are pressed: I = Indianapolis; H = Hollywood; R = Rockaway. Have a nice time in spending with your collection. colonel snow -------------------- |

There is a time line in my collector's life>> I started with collecting vinyl - then around 1974 I started with vinyl imports; when this market was blew up in the early 80's I started collecting audience recordings on audio cassette.
Then around 1984 CD collecting starts; around 1988 I started with import CD's. Around 1998 I started transferring my audio tapes to audio CD's or CDR and in the beginning of this century I start collecting "originals" (songs recorded by another artist before Elvis made his version). I don't collect memorabilia and all other commercial things because I go for the music. colonel snow -------------------- |

The correct answer would be ....What don't we collect? Between the two of us we have CD's, Vinyls, Books, Magazines, Plates, Cups, Tins, Pins, Lapel Buttons (Or Badges as you all say), Stamps, games, Phones, Photographs, etc....we are presently working on our Elvis Room. Steve built shelves for it and when it is all done I will post some pics on here of the finished Product. It has been fun to see what all we had once we combined our collections. Steve keeps saying..."Ebay!!!" I just say: "NO WAY!!!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fight.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif)

I've never been a collector of photos, memorabilia or other Elvis merchadise... although I did try some of that stuff out at one point when I was trying to find "my thing"..... But I used to collect practically everything I could get my hands on on the cd/dvd/book 'area'. Not anymore though... nowadays I feel like I've finally found my "thing"... as I've stated multiple times by now, I collect some good ol' Elvis vinyl... mainly Elvis' Extended Play 45's but I have a few cool 45 and 78rpm singles from the 50s too... the EP's interest me on multiple levels and I seriously get a much bigger kick out of them than I ever got when I received a new Elvis book or CD when I was collecting those... ...Now my cash mostly goes for vinyl but I'm still buying FTD's and other random stuff...

I don't buy everything with Elvis's name on it, just couldn't afford it.
I have been collecting some remastered DVD's and CD's with extra tracks. -------------------- Frank

Hi
I'm a serious CD collector - it's the music that matters to me - I do buy DVDs and the odd book here & there - have a couple of autographs that my wife bought me - But as far as collecting goes for me it's CDs -------------------- Everyone's entitled to one stupid ass mistake

Nice to see what everyone is into..nice replies gang (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)
As for me, I mainly stick to Cd's, the essential RCA/BMG releases, FTD releases, and the essential import cd's. I am working on getting close to 200 original EP cd's so ....."it ain't no big thing, but it's growing... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/victory.gif) I have obtained a fair share of footage over the last 5 years or so, and have to say I enjoy what I have but unless its something really really good I don't dab into that too much anymore. And last but not least, got to have the nice photo books such as Sean Shaver Life Of Elvis, The Concert years, and a few others. I've found it to difficult to collect everything that comes out with EP's name on it, so I get the quality stuff mostly. |

I collect most things if it is CD's/DVD's, and hoping to find a latest import on Ebay when i'm feeling lucky. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/winking0001.gif)
These are what I collected in the last 5-10 years I think. (IMG:http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb243/maccarulez1975/000_0002.jpg) (IMG:http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb243/maccarulez1975/000_0003.jpg) If you look very closely you will see Ash from the evil dead lol. |
