9 january 1959 letter with (requested) songs for a possible recording session

There’s no tomorrow (Hoffman-Corday-Carr)
There’s a home recording from december 1958.
With new lyrics by Aaron Schroeder & Wally Gold the song was recorded on 3 april 1960 titled “It’s now or never”;

What a lovely thing
I’ve not found information about songwriters or recordings by other singers.

It was never meant to be
The song is written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman.
In 1960 (unknown date) it was recorded by Dion & The Belmonts. It was released in 1963 on LP Together (Laurie rec. LLP 2016)

Just a close walk with thee (traditional)
There’s a home recording from december 1958. The song was never recorded by Elvis.

According to an unconfirmed story Bobby Wood offered two demo recordings during february 1969 sessions:
The day after forever – written by Stan Kesler and recorded in september 1961 by Bobby Wood.

Who am I – recorded around 1962 by Bobby Wood in the Sun studio but never released.
(Mentioned in the book A life in music – page 278).
Without doubt the song was known to Elvis with recordings by his favorite gospel quartets like (Statesmen Quartet (1966 – LP), Blackwood Brothers (1967 – LP), J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet (1967 – LP) and many others.
Finally recorded on 22 february 1969 at American Studios.

According to an unconfirmed story Bonnie Bunkley recorded around april 1960 4 songs for Elvis.
All the songs were recorded in the 40’s by other artists:

A – The more I see you (Warren-Gordon)
The original version was recorded on 21 january 1945 by Dick Haymes (Decca 18882).

B – You make me feel so young (Myrow-Gordon)
The original version was recorded in march 1946 by Martha Tilton (Capitol 272).

C – Fools rush in (Mercer-Bloom)
The original version was recorded 18 march 1940 by Bob Crosby & his Orchestra with vocal
Marion Mann (Decca 3154).

D – Day in day out (Mercer-Bloom)
Recorded on 24 july 1939 by Bob Crosby & his Orchestra with vocal Helen Ward (Decca 2703).

Jambalaya
The song is written by Hank Williams and recorded on 13 june 1952 (MGM 11283).
The song is registered at BMI with performer Elvis Presley. (see scans – page 2 is a list with performers I’ve not scanned). The song was submitted several times in the 60’s for a recording session but it was always rejected in the pre-selection.
On 4 may 1975 and a few other occasions Elvis sung small portions of the song.

The song is registered at BMI with performer Elvis Presley. (see scans – page 2 is a list with performers I’ve not scanned). I’ve not found information about a selection for a recording session.
Somewhere rejected in a pre-selection?.

The song is written by Mac Davis; he recorded the song on 13 march 1972 (Columbia 45618).
On 8 january 1973 the song was selected for the Aloha TV Special but not used.

My boy
The song is written by (Jean) Claude Francois - Jean Pierre Boutayre – Yves Dessca with the title “Parce que je t’aime mon enfant”. The song was recorded in 1967 by Claude Francois (Philips 336.203)
English lyrics were written by Bill Martin and Phil Coulter.
This version was recorded in october 1971 by Richard Harris (Dunhill 4293)

On 8 january 1973 the song was selected for the Aloha TV Special but not used. Later on recorded by Elvis on 13 december 1973.

The song is written by Ted Daffan. The song was recorded on 20 february 1942 by Ted Daffan’s Texans. (Okeh 6706). In the following years the song was recorded by countless other artists.

On 8 january 1973 the song was selected for the Aloha TV Special but not used.

Rejected songs Fun in Acapulco

According to the script from 28 november 1962 these songs were selected for:

This is Acapulco
page 25 - scene 54 – on bicycle: Mike sings “This is Acapulco” with Raoul;
According to an interview with Roy C. Bennett the original title/demo version was “Acapulco”; the song was re-written with changing lyrics/title into Mexico.
Finally selected and recorded: Mexico

You can’t make it out in a sportscar
page 69 – scene 11 – parked in a sportscar - Mike sings “You can’t make out in a sports car” ;
Finally selected and recorded: There’s no room to rhumba in a sportscar.

Which way do I turn
page 74 – scene 125 – Tropicana night club - Mike sings “Which way do I turn” with Raoul;
It looks this scene was cut from the movie.
The song isn’t registered at ASCAP/BMI.

Jenny Jenkins
The song was suggested for scene127 in the movie Wild in the country according to the script page 95. The original version of this song was recorded in the 50’s by Tom Glazer (Young Peoples Record 436)
Later on the song was replaced by Husky dusky day.

The song was performed for the first time in concert 26 january 1971 opening. The song was not recorded in the studio later on.

The song was previously selected for recording in march 1971 but rejected. Rejected again.

The last time I saw her face (Lightfoot)
The original version was recorded in december 967 by Gordon Lightfoot for an album.
The song was rejected.

The sun ain’t gonna shine anymore (Crewe-Gaudio)

Ginny’s afraid of the dark

According to an unconfirmed story Elvis wanted to record the song around 1959; he was not able to locate the singer / to get the rights.
Later on he gave the demo-acetate to his father.

On a Glen Campbell – forum about recording sessions are mentioned in 2014 the next demo – versions for Elvis (all written by Sid Wayne & Ben Weisman / recorded between 1965-1967)

Dust on my shoes – no information linked to Elvis;

Hollywood wheels – no information (recorded in 1967 by Ken Rogers- National 6089) (Registered at ASCAP). There’s a clip on YT.

Restless – included on CD Glen Campbell sings for the king. (Registered at ASCAP).

Sands of time – no information linked to Elvis;

You only think of me (when you’re lonely) – no information linked to Elvis; recorded on 23 august 1966 by Jimmy Dean for an album) (Registered at ASCAP).

(Written by Bettye E Berger – Ivory Joe Hunter)
According to Ivory Joe Hunter’s widow and his publisher the song was recorded during may 1971 recording sessions with the other “piano-songs”. In a mail from 4 october 2010 Ernst Jorgensen stated the song maybe selected but not recorded although a few tapes from this may 1971 session are missing.
The song is registered at BMI.
