Hey everyone ,
As some of you will know,Chris and I gave up smoking as from Yesterday morning. We haven't had a smoke since Sunday evening. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I have some patches from the doctor to help me, as everytime i try without i fail (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I am chewing gum like never before and trying to keep busy. Chris however has nothing....no patches .....anything (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I must admit this is really hard ....so god only knows what Chris feels like. Anyone got any tips to ease the pain of giving up ?............ Hi Jules and Chris...........good for you two!! I know how hard it is, as I've watched several friends quit over the years.
My aunt had a terrible time until she had something called laser acupuncture. The skin isn't pierced, but instead a laser is used to stimulate points on the outer ear (don't ask me how or why this works). It worked for her, and she had been trying and failing for YEARS beforehand. I'm going to ask her about it and get back with some details. As I recall the treatment cost about $150 here..............though over there I'm certain the costs would be covered by your medical system. BTW..........there isn't just an oral fixation that has to be dealt with (chewing gum, etc). You have to find something to do with your hands because you're used to dealing with a cigarette in them. Some people carry around dice to toy with in their hand, or those Chinese steel balls that hum when you roll them in your hand. Just find something to DO with your hands to replace the handling of a cigarette. It seems odd, but it seems to help a lot of people Much of the addiction goes beyond the chemicals you're not getting............a lot of it is the withdrawal from the habits you've developed by always having something in your mouth and hands as well. If you can find a way to deal with those, you have more resources left to deal with the chemical withdrawal. --------------------   |

as you know Jules I gave up smoking in January i got some patches but too be honest i got sick of looking for them in the morning (usualy found them stuck to my nuts) so after the second day they went in the bin, i tried mints but got bored of them also after a few weeks. to be honest i gve up for my girls so that was the biggest help i had being around them every day, but the best hint anyone ever gave me was to buy a cleaning things and when i got the urge clean something, you can imagine after 2 weeks you could et off the dogs, they had more baths in that 2 weeks than they ever had in their whole life. I gived up smoking in Feb 2002. The first few weeks can be annoying. I started chewing sweets instead of having a cigar. Because I am unemployed I got the free patches for ten weeks. A few weeks after I started eating mars bars or any chocolate but not many during the day. I became a chocoholic if that's right and I like to give up chocolate someday too but who can. I smoked cigars but that was getting expensive so I decided to give it up. You can save a lot by not smoking.

We have both smoked for at least 25 years so we knew this would be hard.....

I don't know how you guys do it. You have probably been smoking for like 30 years.. And I 10.. I dind it utterly impossible.. When i try i get:
A) Restless, can't sit still. B) Pissed off at everyone and everything. C) A body that tells me i NEED a smoke more than food. D) I get no sleep. And that's the worst of them all.
