Enjoying reading this thread Rex. Thanks for posting it. I would imagine that many fans, myself included, would have loved the experience of actually meeting/seeing Elvis. Actually...it's seeing Elvis that would have been my ambition had he still been alive. I am not sure i would have ever thought of having the chance to meet him.

I look forward to more in this thread.....cool reading (IMG:style_emoticons/default/notworthy.gif)

Enjoying every word written, Rex. You have so much more detail available than most fans that got to see him. Such a treasure to read the details. Thanks so much for letting us travel back in time with you and thanks for saving every little tidbit of information through the years (and all the moves). It is truly a joy to read. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheers.gif) I tried to relay the whole atmosphere of the Hotel, the Showroom and the excitement from everyone all around, for all the English~~Europe Group it was the first time for most of them to see Elvis, and the buzz going around was a different level to Mid-August just TOTAL EXCITEMENT !

BACKSTAGE ~ 4th September 1972 with ELVIS

(IMG:http://www.elvis-tkc.com/forums/uploads/1252515162/gallery_21960_29_42289.jpg)
Some Adverts from the "Vegas Now" August 1972 Magazine

Eleven of us in this SMALLISH SIZED ROOM, also the Colonel and Joe Esposito and some of the other buddies…

I remember some of the Group and singers looking in the doorway (they had dressing rooms pretty well next door) … the room had a small bar ~ a black & white video screen in one corner. (which showed in low resolution the opening acts on stage, to give Elvis some Idea how long before he had to go on)

A low table is in the centre, which had a bowl of mixed fruit on it. (Bananas, grapes and apples I think) ...a good few Soft Leather Chairs around the walls, a display case, with a Karate Belt hanging down the side front corner, dark wood panels on the walls, spotlighting, and a Shag Pile carpet.

WE WATCHED THE START OF THE SHOW AT 8PM ON THE VIDEO and

JUST AFTER THIS RED WEST ~ SONNY & THEN ELVIS WALKS IN.

I'M A LITTLE BIT HAZY AS TO EXACTLY WHAT WAS SAID, BUT ELVIS ASKS IF WE ARE THE ENGLISH FANS, AND MAKES A COMMENT ABOUT THE FACT HE HASN'T BEEN TO ENGLAND YET. (Knowing we would ask about an overseas tour, he got it in first)

TODD IS INTRODUCED FIRST & WE SORT OF APPROACH ELVIS IN A LINE.

I'm 4th, SO I SAY Hi! ELVIS & SHAKE HIS HAND, AND ELVIS SAYS Hi! BACK ~
then I mention I have the 3 News Service Albums for him,
but I’ll put them on the arm rest OF THE CHAIR HE IS STANDING NEXT TO.

Being so aware of all the others and the Girls wanting Hugs and Kisses!!!

(IMG:http://www.elvis-tkc.com/forums/uploads/1252515162/gallery_21960_29_415122.jpg)
I had added a Laminated Poster to the Bound Elvis Weekly's..
as you can see! (it also had a Belgium On Tour Mini Poster on the Back)

But Elvis decides he would like to look inside the books, so he bends down and looks through the start of the first book.

I think he recognized the Elvis weekly sheet I had held up at the second show I had attended on the 17th august ~ when his hand came down through a sea of hands to take it from me, doing a mock stance reading it, before handing it to Charlie.

(more to come, including the Posed Group Photo, and a Free for all session…)

Another one of the 4 photos taken by © Gitt Nyman (from Sweden)
(IMG:http://www.elvis-tkc.com/forums/uploads/1252026055/gallery_21960_23_278891.jpg)
Tony Prince, conducting his Interview with Elvis
(As long as the Colonel Doesn't Know about It !- He's supposed to have said !)

.......17th august ~ when his hand came down through a sea of hands to take it from me, doing a mock stance reading it, before handing it to Charlie......

…. Elvis straightens up – looking at me with those Eyes ! ~ which are so very Blue ~ with that Twinkle in them.. and says “THANKYOU VERY MUCH” right at me ~ his eyes and the deepness of the expression ~ gave me a 'shiver' of pleasure. And when Elvis says thank you like that direct at you, you know he means it. At the same time we shook hand for a second time.

I moved to one side, to allow every one else to catch their moment with Elvis... things seemed to move very fast as the others are introduced to Elvis and yes the girls did get Hugs and Kisses.

Tony Prince or Todd (or both) presented Elvis with the New Musical Express 'AWARD' for Entertainer and Musical Personality of 1971. (Really the fans in GB had achieved this for Elvis by Voting in Polls at the Close of 1971)
Elvis looked and Examined it with Great Interest.

Just after this, Tony Prince who has all these Round Metal ELVIS Buttons attached and sewn up and down his legs... gets asked by Elvis to move back a little so he can have a closer look at them.

The Elvis ones you could buy at the Hilton with bend'y tabs on them, in different colours and designs (I bought Six different) Tony had some with just the Colonel on them (Colonel Says Have a Nice Day) – which I guess Colonel Parker had given to him earlier...

Elvis was certainly amused by the Display...

Elvis is wearing a Dark Black Suit (Jacket and Pants) - The jacket has Red Leather Trim on the Collar and Pocket Patches plus also Red Leather Inserts on the lower part of the Sleeves. With a White Shirt which we later got to see had Puffed Sleeves. (Same or similar 'Suit' as worn at the November 1972 Hawaii Press Conference)

The Lining of the Jacket is the same design as a shirt Elvis wore when he landed by Helicopter in Hawaii in 1973.

Elvis had many rings on his fingers... and an (Native American) INDIAN SCORPIAN NECKLACE. Made of Silver and Turquoise with some Red Stone effects.. The end finished in a CLAW design

The Colonel got us all to Stand either side of Elvis with the solid wood table in front of us (in a balanced sort of way)... for the Official Photo of us All.

Now I wonder if it was Ed Bonja (?) but didn't pay much attention at the time... for this photo the camera was on a Tripod. (the others it was a different hand held one with a large flash attachment) I managed to place myself just to Elvis' Left side, - Ian's wife Pat got herself hidden partly behind Elvis...

Elvis posed with the N.M.E. Award, his expression just looks beautiful.. cropped to just print Elvis on his own, it makes a really nice Solitary Photo.

On the Wide Hilton Stage, you didn't really feel Elvis was 6 foot 2 inches tall... but standing next to him you really knew it... I was only 5 foot 8 ½ inches.

She is on other photos from this meeting, while I'm totally Hidden. Shucks.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I visited TODD and VICKY in September 1972... to chat about the Fan Club, and my ELVIS NEWS SERVICE... and all the sets of BW photos from the meeting got sent from the Colonels office to TODD - so was able to pick up my photos that day.

I also visited IAN and Pat Baylie not long after that.. so I'm sure PAT talked about herself in the Group Picture.. A year or so later, IAN Left the UK Elvis Fan Club.. to start his ELVIS RECORD COLLECTORS CLUB... he still was available to put on Elvis DJ ing Gigs at Elvis Meetings.. After Elvis passed away he published and Edited an ELVIS COLLECTORS CLUB MAGAZINE for a few years ~ that was always interesting. He still runs the Elvis Collectors Club from Leicestershire - on the Internet.

This is a SLIDE I took with Available Light (No Flash) of ELVIS and IAN !

In Vegas I think VIRGINIA meet Elvis just the once in Feb 1973.
Outside Elvis' California Homes was dozens of times, have no idea how many but judging from the various photos I had from her... it must have been a lot...

See FAMOUS ELVIS FANS TOPIC that I started a good few months back, that has details of her Meeting in Vegas 1973, and also a number of posts in the topic about her Daughter "Elaine".

1977 - ELVIS PASSING AWAY.....
I was in Norway, arrived around the 12th I think, had to get my films passed by the Norwegian Censor... I Was staying at PAUL GRUNLANDS home, for his Weekend (2 day) ELVIS FILM FESTIVAL on the 14th and 15th August over 1000 fans attended from Norway, and surrounding countries... Most of the films shown were mine. Really great weekend ELVIS FANS GATHERING.

On the evening of 16th August, a cinema in the Centre of Oslo presented a fringe Elvis Fans Event, with my 16mm copy of KING CREOLE.

As we all came out of the cinema, a Norway fan told us ELVIS HAD JUST DIED. and Radio Luxembourg was playing Elvis songs through the night... OF COURSE WE COULDN'T BELIEVE IT, AND IT WAS A GREAT SHOCK..... Paul had been to Vegas, and also MSG, and met Elvis SIX TIMES

One of the Moments in the Early Hours of the 17th August ~ was TONY PRINCE re-playing the Interview he did With Elvis at my Meeting with Elvis on the 4th September 1972. - That was a strange feeling, and a little Unreal with Elvis Gone......

IT TOOK ME 26 hours to get home to Leicester. (on the 18th August)

many thanx for sharing this rex , i also remember this day with sadness although nothing would prepare a fan to suggest that he would die a month and a half later - after seeing him in cincinatti 77 , i thought he was just great even waiting outside the diseldorf hotel he waved to gail sanders of the presliettes fan club and she took some great shots as did john gadore , sad , just sad.

Have you caught up with Tony Prince, Rex? He seems like such a colorful fella. If so, what is he doing now? or are you still searching for him?
