This CD takes us back to September 5 1970. As we all know Elvis could do nothing wrong during this period, all shows where grate.

The CD starts with he Orchestra playing, that soon turns into the opening vamp. When Elvis enters the stage the crowd is won already, Charisma can do much alone.
Elvis starts on “that’s all right”, he attacks the song the only way he could do. Listen to the crowd reactions during the first solo.

After "That’s all right" Elvis starts on "I got a woman" immediately. Once again a grate version of this song. After a little Amen and “Lawd have mercy” Elvis ends the song . The 1970 version of this song has to be my favorite.

After this song Elvis introduces himself ofcourse as Johnny Cash, some lines from “I walk the line” follow. And right after this the gatorade dialogue starts, along comes the jokes.

“Love me tender” starts after a short false start. And by this time all the women gathers around the stage to get their kiss. After the song he warns the girls about having flue.

Elvis then does a beautiful “I’ve lost you”. As we know the live version differ from the studio version, but there is nothing negative about this song, maby a little short.

“I just cant help belivin” follows, i have still to hear Elvis completely forget the lyrics after seeing how nervous he was on TTWII. The song ends with the gong getting a big slam.

A grate version of “You lost that lovin’ feelin’ ” The best version of this song is found on the TTWII box (August 12 Midnight show). But this one is also fantastic.

“Polk Salad Annie” starts, Elvis messes up the intro a little, “My mouth stopped working man”.
This was the show stopper this year, Elvis has the crowd in his palms.
In the middle of the song Elvis starts with impersonations of other artist. First comes Tom Jones, (he does some Tom Jones moves). Englebert comes next, then Hitchcock, Then Glen Cambel, Then he says “Me” and does the Polk Salad Annie moves. And all the women goes crazy. After the song comes the band introductions. “Charlie this is Jerry” etc.

After the introduction of James Burton, Elvis wants “Johnny B. Good”. A grate version, but not close to the 69 versions of this song. Of course James Burton does his job grate.
Introductions continues. After doing a funny Bob Dylan impersonation he introduces the celebs as well.

“The wonder of you” is the next song, and i must say this is a beautiful song i wish Elvis would have kept during the years to come. But it was already lasting only 1 minute and 32 seconds at this time. After the songs Elvis starts joking around, and when the audience was laughing you could be sure to get one or two extra jokes as well. No doubt that Elvis was a funny guy.

Then we get a medley of two 50’s songs “Heartbreak Hotel” and “All Shook up”.
"All shook up" get’s two false starts this time.
Then follows a good version of “Blue suede shoes”. “Hound Dog” is sadly incomplete, but it could be worse.

Now to “Bridge over trouble water”. Once again we get a beautiful version of this Garfunkel song. I haven’t heard Elvis ever do a bad version of Bridge, and i don’t think i will ever hear one either. This is maby the best performed song on this concert, really powerful.

This Show then ends with “Can’t help falling in Love”.


The Bonus songs featured on this CD hails from September 4 MS.
We once again get: I walk the line, I’ve lost you, I just can’t help belivin’, Polk salad Annie and You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling.
But we also get “Crying Time” (second live version, a short version), a line from “My way” and also a good version of “One night”.



Highlights: Polk Salad Annie, The wonder of you, Bridge over trouble water and You’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’.

I havent really started listening to this release until recently. But it was a grate show imo.

Chris, it IS a great show (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/laughing1.gif) Sound is acceptable, but nowhere near as good as the Rick Rennie recordings from earlier during the engagement. One thing I like though is the bass, it's very upfront.

You're right about that Gordon (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/clap.gif) All their release are worth of having in ones collection, and this one is no exception. 1970 was a magical year for Elvis, 2 Vegas Seasons, Houston and two tours and everytime he sounded different, but they all have one thing in common: Great Shows! It never ceases to amaze what people are yelling and requesting during the shows. ( did you know that someone in Tempe on March 23rd 1977 requested Puppet On A String ??? Interestingly, the people that recorded this concert are the same that recorded the really excellent Spring Fever show (May 22nd 1974, Lake Tahoe).

the person who recorded this show also taped all 30 of the shows she attended between 1969 and 30th November 1976 and all the ones i have heard by this person are great quality.

This season, August/September 1970, featured Elvis at his absolute best! It's too bad that the worldwide satellite show didn't happen during this season at Vegas.
