A season with ups and (kind of) downs. It started of very good with fantastic shows, but in the middle of the series Elvis had throat problems. This led to a canceling of a show. But the king knew that his fans where there for him so he continued the shows, altough his voice wasn't that strong anymore. This final show is a very relaxed one, you can feel that Elvis is relieved it's almost over, that he can go to rest.. His voice is still not 100% but he tries...he tries very hard. And that gives us a great season closing show. The version of "What now my love" is sung/spoken with great emotion, a real higlight!! There are even two instrumental reprises of the ending, very rare to hear, but it gives an idea how the mood was that evening. And what a lovely "i'll remember you" credited to the writer Kui Lee. This show has been on cdr for a few years and since 2005 it's on pressed disc in very decent sound. To me this is the re-discovery of the month, Elvis pleasing his fans, despite the voice troubles. A truly fascinating performance.

During this show Elvis Introduces Pierre Adidge, Bill Porter, Ed parker, Buzz Aldrin, Mama Cas, Dane Clark, Ernest Borgnine, George Hamilton and
Ann Margret. Elvis performed a genius version of 'What now my love' in this show. :-) Regards, mrsongman -------------------- "There's some girl over there who yelled through the whole song, so honey put some tape over your mouth" # Elvis after singing Blue Christmas (Huntsville ALA Sept. 6th 1976).

I have to be honest..besides the all ttime highlight What Now My Love and very few others I don`t particularly this Vegas season...at times Elvis sound pretty bored ..perhaps having the big event behind him..he was looking for a new challenge..being on the road again..the sparkle was back..

QUOTE Buzz Aldrin Yes Pieter, "the first man on the moon",as he said it!! Lots of introductions at this relaxed closing show.. QUOTE perhaps having the big event behind him..he was looking for a new challenge In a way you are very right Cisco, he still loved to sing, but from the worlds best known performance to the routine at Vegas..it must have been a downer... -------------------- |

A lot of celebrities for a closing show, usually its the opening shows they attended.Great to hear a lot of effort put into a closing show when Elvis was not feeling so good.I doubt this much effort was put in again on future Vegas seasons.

Bill Porter and Ed Parker are hardly Celebrities, and only really known to Elvis Fans...
Ann Margret followed Elvis' Season. This season had a lot of A list stars.... also JACK LORD attended 5 shows in a Row, with Elvis introducing him at each and the TCB Band getting the Hawaii 5-O Theme, better and better every night. Just how Ill was Elvis (?) we have photos of him with Clay, Bugner, Jack Lord and others backstage, when he was so ill he only did one show a night, on some of those nights. The 23rd Feb (final night) -Dinner Show, was a much more normal show for this season. -------------------- |

Just got through listening to this show for the first time.
Fist of the sound is pretty good and you can clearly hear what Elvis is saying between songs, however there is a couple of moments where the sound drops off and becomes muffled however it does not distract from the show and is soon over. As Johan has previously stated Elvis is in a very good mood and probably relieved the difficult season is over, his throat problems can still be heard during the show. Elvis also gives a mention to Jerry Scheff as its his last show and he is going back to Canada. Overall a good show in good sound so well worth trying to get a copy. |
