MARIAH CAREY is on the verge of scoring her 18th U.S. number one single - which will tie her with king of rock and roll ELVIS PRESLEY.
Carey will reach the landmark next weekend (23Mar08) if her latest track Touch My Body - from her new album E=MC2 - reaches the top spot. The achievement will confirm Carey's status as the best-selling female singer of all time, and take her closer to the record held by the Beatles - who landed 20 U.S. number ones. 2008/03/18 www.contactmusic.com / www.epgold.com -------------------- |

Fair play to her. All good things must come to an end, i suppose. Personally i have little interest in stats, for me its all about the music.
I know who the greatest is, so people can out sell him or out do him all they want but no-one will ever be better than the king . -------------------- TCBEP

Good for her I guess, but I can't see why someone would buy her crappy music. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I agree...Elvis will always be #1...matters not about the stats, polls or reviews!
The problem with comparing is...these artist can sing (and have a fan base) in their chosen field...but Elvis could sing all kinds and appeal to all people...young, old, rich, poor, rock, country, gospel, pop, red and yellow, black and white!! And he has withstood the test of time...who of them will still be discussed, adored, listened to and respected 30 yrs after they are gone?? I take it you have not brought any of her music Einar (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) TCE Lorraine No, had a sister that was into her and that was more than enough. well l like Mariah music, but l don't see her being good enough to beat elvis in everything. To be fair, her earliest stuff wasn't that bad, but the sugar pop she started with was far from anything i personaly would call music.. Besides I think she jumped on the "use my body to sell music" bandwagon. When grate looks becomes your main selling point one has nothing to do on a stage In my opinion. If you want to show off a grate body, or jump around half naked Playboy would be a better choice of media. But each to thier own I guess. -------------------- The outer limit of your potential is determined solely by your own beliefs and your own confidence in what you think is possible |

Well Elvis will always be number one. He changed popular music back in the 50's and did all his movies in the 60's then the '68 Special, then the amazing concerts in the 70's, what other music star has done so much over three decades??? Ok there's the Beatles and the Stones I guess but Elvis had so many different styles and like it says in the title " something for everyone" .
We love ya Elvis (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/notworthy2.gif) |

And let's not forget, you dont have to sell as many records these days to score a number one as you had to in the 50's-70's.Like it has already been stated i don't need selling figures to know who's cd i would rather put in my player.ELVIS

The numbers game which is played around with by so many people is really pointless in determining who is a "better" star. The FACT that Elvis, 30 years after his passing, outsells many contemporary artists speaks loudly. 100 years from people will still be playing Elvis music.

mariah vs elvis, that's a macdonald's hamburger compared to a 4*menue at bocuse's.... just because a growing number of people 'enjoys' the hamburger, that does not necessarily tell anything about it's quality, just about quantity. it only means that those 'enjoying' have not yet discovered what real good taste is. hugs, ellie -------------------- i don't suffer from insanity - i enjoy every minute of it

It doesnt matter any more whether Elvis has this that or the other number of record sales etc...his legacy can never be changed. And that's what counts..
