This show is been out since the 90's as "The thrill goes on".
Rainbow records releases is now again from a new different source.
Tthat new source is milestones better then before, for an early roadshow it's very good!!

The show itself is one highlight.
A very energetic show.
But also weird that "Bridge" or "Suscious minds" are not on the setlist that day.
Therefore it's only a 40 minutes performance.

Still, it's the legend on the road, at the top of his game!!
Above that, it's the best sounding tour show from 1970!!

Yes, but it's sure that "Bridge" and "Suspicious" was not sung that day.
None of the two sources has those songs.

About "Why my lord" in Montgomery '77...
On my both sources ("Never ending Demand 1" and cdr "Elvis in Montgomery",the sung is not on these cd's...
Why do you mention this "ommited song" Denny, where is your source that it WAS sung? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif)

Other then that, the 1970 show is a real class-act isn'it? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

Another one of my pics used. Amazing how many releases I'm seeing now with my art now. Of course I never recieve art credit or anything. Oh well, the price I pay for putting them up for my other fellow fans. LOL At least send me a cd.

I'm affraid I have to disagree with you Johan (IMG:style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif)

This is indeed a high energy concert, but at the same time it's also very, very rushed and Elvis is very unfocussed during most of the songs. Next to the high energy it also has a high 'let's get it over with as soon as possible' attitude from the main star. It's definately one of the shortest, if not the shortest, tour show Elvis ever did.

Undoubtly great to have been there that night, but even back then a 38 minute concert, unfocussed performer and the absence of both 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'Suspicious Minds' or 'How Great Thou Art' would have been, a bit, disapointing for the audience.

'How Great Thou Art'

This number is in the setlist Stefan, in fact it's a very focused good version.
There are various very good songs to be found on this cd, the rushed ones are the old 50's rockers... as always...
"Polk sallad Annie" for instance is performed with great spirit, "You've lost that loving feeling" is exiting.
This evening it's a (shortened) Vegas show, in same style as the Houston Astrodome shows.. short but tight...

But i have to agree partly, it's too short, and one have to wonder why the two centerpieces from this concertyear(Bridge and Suspicious) are not performed... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif)

Soundquality is improved a lot over the previous release,so there's an absolute winning point. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

You're absolutely right about 'How Great Thou Art', don't know how I got to that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/undecided.gif) my mistake (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

For the rest I'll stand with my earlier post, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheers.gif)

Im with Johan here, the concert is really good in my opinion, not on par with the earlier 70's shows but that's forgiveable considering Elvis had been onstage for the most of 1970, with projects such as the Astrodome,TTWII etc. It takes it's toll.

Still, to me a subpar Elvis in 1970 is as good as the best later shows. The energy is high as excpected, yet I aslo agree with Stefan that the focus is not there on all songs. It's short, too short... Elvis seems to be on Duracell batteries. While we always say Elvis was tierd of Vegas, beeing on the road didn't seem to lift his spirit this night. I also understand this, as in reality Elvis should have had a break, but as he said himself "The show must go on". I will recomend the show to anyone as the numbers he puts his focus on justify the release.

I agree with many of your points Einar and I don't find this a 'bad' concert, but I'm neither in the camp of those who think that all from '69 - '72 is of the highest standard (and I'm not implying you or Johan are in that camp). Like you said, compared to earlier concerts from the year 1970 this is definately a 'disapointing' listening experience.

That said, the cd is offcourse a worthwhile addition to any fan's collection and should not be totally disregarded because of the fact we are wittness of rare off-night in 1970 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rockon.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_wink.gif) I think we agree on most Stefan, it would take alot to top Elvis anno January/February 1970, his voice was so uber cool back then, The rawness witnessed in '69 but also Elvis had gotten a better hang on the ballads i.e "Let it be me","wonder of you", he simply had the best from August and August '69 at once.
But the things he does right on this release is well worth it, and "good" sounding tour shows from the second-half of 1970 is not something we get everyday. While the sound is far from perfect I think this is the best sounding one we have, wich is why I recommend it.

I know I said that this is on par with good later shows, by that I ment that you get good number yet also alot of rushed material. Not a low-blow in case someone is wondering. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)

The CD was released previously in 1994 with the title The thrill goes on (JR prod. 9/94).
