For sometime I have had a Plan of the first Floor at GRACELAND
YOU can't help thinking about all the ~ Elvis times!!! Spent over the Years!!!! As you take in the places and things that filled his Life...... This is more than any picture in so many ways. Of course your thoughts will always go to that Final Day~Night and what might have been ...................................... I don't think GRACELAND should ever do tours of this Floor.. IT'S JUST SO SAD. What does everyone t h i n k ? ? ? GRACELAND_TOP_FLOOR.jpg ( 538.45K ) Number of downloads: 29 (The copy I first obtained of this PLAN showed Graceland almost square, and the text was fuzzy dark Black on Dark Green) I've almost reset all the objects and text, also re-sized from the square look to a more natural Oblong, and picked more Natural colours and Easier to Read Text, as well as increasing it in size almost double. It is now much easier to imagine ELVIS' LIFE at HIS MOST LOVED HOME -------------------- |

Hi Rex, I don't know if you ever saw this on YouTube but its something I made last year using google sketchup of Graceland upstairs. I know its not perfect but I made it from what pictures I could fnd and the footage included in This Is Elvis.
in case that's not working, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1maJB7ztiE -------------------- |

No -I hadn't seen anything like that !!!It must have taken a good few hours (days) to put all that together. Excellent stuff. Do you have the Individual Elements of the walk through - still saved ?? as Jpegs (or some other) would love to see those also nice textures used, Elvis' Bed still seems to dominate the room, I guess thats a Big Brother set thing, about enclosed really to TV View looking more open spaces, or a reverse of that. The corridors look more enclosed, did you figure way out to the Outside Decking area, my plan doesn't show any door opening. Anyone got any photos of Elvis relaxing on this Decking area? thanks again for sharing..... -------------------- |

It did indeed take quite a while to do that, but I do love working with sketch up.
Looking at the plans I saw Ginger's bathroom goes right along the back of the stairs with a glass brick wall/window as can be seen when they were hanging the Christmas drapes there last year. From my own photo's of the back of the house, and dimensions from plans, it seems the door to the deck was in Lisa's room. Here are a few slides of tha actual model before its been mangled by converting to avi and uploading on Youtube, I can do others if there's a particular area you'd like to look at from the plan:

Excellent ...... I remember spending hours trying to figure out the layout of the upstairs rooms.....with the photos we have and the footage from This Is Elvis, floor plans and a conversation with Nancy Rooks we finally got it sorted.......
When you think about the houses stars live in these days Graceland was so small.....especially upstairs..... and with the way he closed off the balcony I imagine it was kind of dark and claustrophobic.....or as he wanted it to be, a private escape and sanctuary........ It fascinates me....as does the upstairs of the Racket Ball Court.....with all those mirrors that lay out is tough to figure out..... -------------------- Jean

If my eyes aren't playing tricks on me, these three photos are the only pictures that were actually taken while Elvis was out of town and I believe that these (specifically the pictures of Elvis's dressing room area) were taken by Linda Thompson's friend, Jeanette LeMay-Dumas. The others are, in fact, screengrabs or 'outtake' pictures from "This Is Elvis" - especially the one of Joe Esposito in Elvis's bedroom during filming of the movie itself. I have those same 'outtake' pictures on my computer. I think that if Elvis had found out that these pics had been taken by LeMay-Dumas, he would've hit the ceiling because those are/were his private quarters. -------------------- Phil. 4:13; Jer. 29:11

Kind of like sneaking up and looking behind the Temple Curtain isn't it? You are curious as to what is there in one sense....but know in your heart your would not want people invading or displaying your most private of places? And there is a reason it has a curtain and rules about no going there, like Elvis did his Upstairs Quarters.
Elvis should have locked his bedroom to these people when he was out of town...so there goes the trust issue doesn't it? Elvis had very few people he could actually trust to help him protect his privacy. How sad. I think it hurts people, much like going and taking things from the Titanic. Nothing is sacred anymore. Invasion of privacy is never a good thing. -------------------- "The man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing is the King, of the whole wide world." |
