Signed LPs to raise thousands for trust.


AUTOGRAPHED LPs by The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Queen, Bob Marley and Pink Floyd will go under the hammer to raise thousands of pounds for Dorset Wildlife Trust.

The eBay auction, which will take place on Sunday, November 4, will also feature signed LPs by Wings and Monty Python. High street music chain-turned-charitable organisation Our Price donated much of the autographed memorabilia, which is expected to raise thousands of pounds.

All the proceeds from the sale of the auction items, above their reserve price, will be donated to the trust. Auction organiser Les Bunce said: "This was a completely unexpected and amazing offer which could make a massive difference to the amount of money which is raised for Dorset's wildlife."

Among the LPs being auctioned is an original copy of The Beatles' album Help! signed by all four band members, which is expected to fetch at least £15,000.

Also going under the hammer will be a signed copy of Pink Floyd's 1971 album Meddle, estimated to be worth £4,000, and a copy of Elvis Presley's 1965 LP Harum Scarum, signed by The King himself, valued at £7,000.

Our Price charity co-ordinator Lisa Bignall said: "Guide prices are funny things.

"There was an auction recently in which a gold disc for the film Tomb Raider signed by Angelina Jolie was given a retail price of £1,200 but in the end it went for £18,000.

"It all depends who's at the auction and how much they want what's being auctioned." She explained that after the Our Price ceased trading four years ago, the owner retained the name to do charitable work. She added that the guide price for Natty Dread signed by Bob Marley is £2,500 and Wings' Red Rose Speedway is estimated to be worth £2,800.

Dorset Wildlife Trust spokesman Nicky Hoar said: "We're all set up and ready to go. "Our Price got in touch with us at the trust to see if we wanted to auction any of these items and take the profits above the reserve prices. "It is not going to cost the trust anything to run this auction but we stand to do very well from it."
