December 7 1941.
Thousands of of innocent people lost their lives in this surprise attack. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt declared Dec. 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy." -------------------- Frank

I thought this topic was interesting history.
I know it's old news but some still remember the past. Maybe we could call it famous dates in history. -------------------- Frank

hello suspicious minds,
good idea! we used to have a 'famous dates in history'-thread in the german forum until it died for lack of contributions (the top posters were not always available). another - more pleasant - anniversary was celebrated this week as well: the first heart transplant by dr. barnard 40 years ago on dec. 3rd, 67. saw an interesting report about it last weekend. amazing what we today regard as 'normal' and unspectacular. hugs, ellie -------------------- i don't suffer from insanity - i enjoy every minute of it

You might enjoy this Frank, and I can think of a few others who might as well (BAZZA!) from JamesVRoy's excellent Scotty Moore website, his most recent update:

I saw this last night on FECC. These photo's are new to me. I know some of you don't like history. It's hard to find topics to go with the date. I find it interesting to go over old news. -------------------- Frank

December 11 1941. Germany and Italy declared war on the USA. a sad day indeed, let's hope the world will never have to face such a catastrophe again. 5 years prior to that another catastrophe was announced (at least in the eyes of british monarchy): on dec.11,1936 Britain's King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Warfield Simpson. dec. 12 as well:
In 1957...DJ Al Priddy was fired from a Portland, Oregon radio station (KEX) because he played Elvis Presley's rendition of "White Christmas" on air. The station had banned Presley's interpretations of Christmas carols because they believed that such a sexually charged performer had no business recording religious music. source: MTV.ca 1915: Singer-actor Frank Sinatra was born in Hoboken, N.J. 1870: Joseph H. Rainey of South Carolina took his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first black congressman. -------------------- i don't suffer from insanity - i enjoy every minute of it

Thanks Ellie. (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) IMHO, they might just as well simply left this stone at it's place and moved an even bigger rock right on top of it. this man had brought so much misery to so many people that he would have deserved it (apologies to conor, i know my attitude is anything but christian (IMG:http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) ). hugs, ellie -------------------- i don't suffer from insanity - i enjoy every minute of it

1972: Last Moon mission returns. The last manned space mission to the Moon is on its way back to Earth, bringing to an end the US programme of lunar exploration. I use to like watching the splash downs of the Apollo space ships on the late news on TV. What use to be puzzling to me was when the space capsule splash landed in the sea there was no steam rising from the hot capsule. Nashville Star, USA Network’s original grassroots talent search to find the next country music star and the nation’s top-rated country music series, has partnered with the RCA Label Group – Nashville to give someone their big break when Nashville Star returns for Season Four, it was announced today by executive producer H.T. Owens. The winner will be on one of RLG’s three labels – Arista Nashville, BNA or RCA Records. “We couldn’t have chosen a better partner than the RCA label group to help us discover, cultivate and launch our next Nashville Star,” said Owens. “We are working in lockstep with RLG's immensely talented A&R department to ensure that this year’s finalists are the most talented ever, and that this season’s winner has all of the resources and support to succeed in the highly competitive country music market.” -------------------- Frank
