Hey Brian, thanks again for your faithfulness in keeping all updated. Can I ask a question. During his life and posthumously, Elvis continue to chart (what a testimony to the man's talent and fan base!). But what are the differences in the various charts. For example, the Easy Listening chart had Elvis reaching number 1 where Billboard and/or cash Box did not. With the variety of charts, what is the criteria for charting and positioning? Also, is a number 1 on the East Listening chart comparable to a number on Billboard?
Has the way people receive a gold award for a release the same as it was for Elvis when he was still with us and recording? In other words, is it easier to receive a "gold" award today, more difficult, or about the same as it was when Elvis was here?

Thanks Brian.

Personally, I am of the opinion that the only reason it sells is because SONY (U.S.A.) keeps the album stocked up in the stores. The same thing happened with 'An Afternoon In The Garden' a while back. It's a pity they didn't keep the stores stocked up with the 'If I Can Dream' album.

As always, thank you Brian.

I find it so interesting how albums containing a variety of Elvis movie songs always seem to sell generally well with the public around the world. Could it be that many long-time Elvis fans underestimate many of the movie songs?

M-M,

I think you are right. Elvis always gave his best with the material he was presented with and I love most of his movie songs. The backings on several are not up to scratch but could be re-mixed with today's musicians as on the latest IICD album. Elvis' films are real fun and can be watched by all ages and families together and they receive much too much criticism from fans in my opinion. I watch them regularly. Elvis was unique.

"If I Can Dream" is really hanging in there! Brian, were the sales better in England, throughout Europe, or in the United States? Just curious. Thanks

Hi Jim,

Sales in the UK have been easily the best in the World. Now over 1 million and 9 thousand units sold there alone. It is still in the Top 10. Sales in the U.S.A. have been really disappointing with less than 100,000 sold to date. Interestingly in Canada this week the album re-enters their Chart at 24 (highest yet) and it is No.1 on the Amazon (Canada) Rock Chart and No.3 on their Pop Chart. According to Canadian fans, this week has been the first time they have seen the record shops with plentiful stocks. Apart from the UK, Sony appear not to have marketed the album properly. The same lack of marketing applies to Europe also. I suspect heads will roll because of it.
