I could listen to Angel forever. One of the great movie ballads.
On top of old smoky
this is the right title; the original version was recorded by George Reneau in oct. 1925 for Vocalion 5114 & Vocalion 15366.
I found still information about an older performance by Mr. Kinley Brooks on 25-04-17; I have no recording info about that.
it is a traditional song so perhaps older record versions excist.

On the melody of "On top of old smoky" the song was also recorded with the title The litlle mohee - My litthe mohi - Little Maumee etc in the late 20's of last century by various artists.
The oldest version I found is:
(The little mohee) On top of old smoky - recorded on 12-03-26 by Flora Noles (Okeh 45037).
