Posted by: Suspicious Minds Nov 2 2009, 09:26 PM

My Latest Purchase in the off topic with no Elvis items please.
Items to include would be CD's / DVD's and books.

My latest purchase is the Jeeves and Wooster Complete series on DVD.
I bought this set from the new Woolworths on-line shop.

What oh?

I also bought the triple Sinbad DVD set.
I thought there was only one DVD for a moment and later found it had 3 DVD's.

It's not THAT good Donna..
The setting is right,the costumes too,acting is decent,even the story is 100% good...it's pretty filmed..

But Germans who speak perfect English?
Nope,dat does'nt sounds right.
It's hard to believe the actors in the character their playing because of that.
I never had the feeling i was watching the real event.
From a historical point of view is that a big letdown.

Movies like this should stay factual(certainly in language)
Perfect example was the brilliant "Der untergang".
German actors bring to live what was history...

Posted by: C.C.Rider Nov 6 2009, 01:12 PM

It started in German Johan. I think that they did that bit quite well. Changing to English, but at the same time, realising that it was indeed German they were speaking. It is a good film. We bought it a few weeks ago. But nowhere near as good as it is made out to be. Cruise is excellent though notworthy.gif

Posted by: NightRider Nov 6 2009, 11:43 PM

Didn't think much to it to be honest..( Valkyrie). I agree Tom Cruise is good...but it wasn't as good as i expected it to be. Agree with Shaun about the German bit...they kinda got around that at the start of the movie by starting in German and blending to English. Worth a watch i suppose...but nothing that special.

12 rounds starring John Cena ( WWE fame ) was pretty decent. Nothing brilliant...but an enjoyable action movie. Also enjoyed Inkheart.....but i must admit..no movies i have watched of late have been anything other than ok. undecided.gif

My latest non Elvis purchase are;

I have been buying John Wayne DVD's lately.
Especially the degastini collection or whatever is going new and cheap.

Recently I bought a John Wayne double DVD set The Comancheros/The Undefeated and The Quiet Man, Rooster Cogburn, Rio Grande, Fort Apache and The Big Country.

I use to throw away the cases as they do take up space but I miss looking at the cases. I am buying some DVD's for back up copies with cases.
Now all I need is some furniture to keep the DVD's.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Nov 17 2009, 12:21 PM

My latest purchases;

I finally got The Omen Pentology DVD set at Morrisons for £7.99.
Very good value for money.
It's the 30th Anniversary edition.
The Omen 1,2,3,4 and the remake of The Omen 1.

I also bought the Hellcats of The Navy DVD.
The only film with Ronald and Nancy together.
That cost £2.
Morrison's has cheap DVD's at the moment.

There is baskets of DVD's you have to sort if you want any.
I wish they would stack them for easy search.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Nov 20 2009, 07:13 PM

My latest purchaes today are;

The French Connection 1 and 2.

Some more DVD's from the John Wayne DeAGOSTINI DVD collection;

Stagecoach,
Sands of Iwo Jima,
Flying Tigers.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Nov 27 2009, 09:51 PM

My latest purchases;

DVD Films;

A Bridge Too Far
Gone With The Wind
The Longest Day

I am collecting my collection again and keeping the cases this time.
After Christmas I hope to buy a bookcase for storing DVD's.
Although DVD 's look better with the cases it does take up room.
I could do with a bigger storage room for my CD / DVD / Books.

My favourites too.

I just you have better luck with post unless you bought in person.
I am getting a replacement for my original Jeeves and Wooster Collection order.
I hope there is no thieving going on with the post.

Posted by: JohanD Nov 30 2009, 02:43 PM

Pure noslagia DVD.
"Scrooge"..watched it as a kid on BBC around Christmas and never forgot it!!
Now i have it on dvd...aah..the memories...classic stuff. wiggle.gif

Also a dvd set about the WO2 Nurnberg trials,5 hours long,very interesting for a WW2 freak like me.

Posted by: NightRider Nov 30 2009, 08:43 PM

Funnily enough that is one of my favourite movies. Scrooge with albert Finney. I recall watching it as a kid...and have watched it every christmas day for years. Its weird as its not really my type of film...musical and all that ( except for Elvis of course )...but i just love this one notworthy.gif

My Jeeves and Wooster Collection order is finally on its way.
I had the despatch confirm email this time.
My computer was off-line for 10 days after I ordered this but that should not hold up order.
It did not say subject to availability at the time of order.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Dec 5 2009, 02:45 PM

What oh, what oh as Wooster would say.

I finally received my order today.
This is a digitally restored set
This has 8 DVD's with all 23 episodes of Jeeves and Wooster series.
It's not a big bulky collection but has a slender case.

A pity all Elvis's 33 films was not in slender package.
This would be a lot better storage.

My latest and last on-line purchase before Christmas;

The Fighting Seabees,
Wake of The Red Witch,
True Grit,
Yankee Doodle Dandy.

These I bought at The Factory shop (formerly Woolworths).
Three Coins In The Fountain,

Plus Casablanca at Morrisons.

My film collection is growing by the year.
If I had the money I would open a cinema.
Would people be interested in old films today?

Must be - or they wouldn't have transferred them to DVD - they only pick the ones they think will make money - took a long time for most elvis films to be transferred to dvd.

Would watch Wake of the Red Witch, true Grit, A Bridge Too Far & The Big Country - not familiar with a few of the others

I don't think youngsters of today would watch the films I collect.
They are mostly into Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings and chick flicks as they call it.
The film makers like to keep old films available on DVD and in better print.

Hi FRANK
Firstly...........................a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you...

I see you like JOHN WAYNE... I collected a lot in the VHS days.. used to watch him all the time...

Do you collect pictures of him also? I have almost 100 (10"x8" Glossy photos) most from Hollywood Picture archives... bought them at the same time as a lot of Elvis ones.... When I had my shop... he was the second biggest artist I sold pictures of in Frames (#1 was Elvis of course)

I had a large Lazer copier, so could copy the 10x8s up to A3 size and frame them..

This picture was a great art one of John... you could buy it in 16" x 20" size framed.. I remember stocking it a lot for my shop...

Yes I am a big John Wayne fan.
I have 40 or more JW DVD's now.
I had John Wayne video's but I sold them as I collect DVD's now.
I don't collect John Wayne photo's or others to put in a photo frame.
I do have some favourite photo's of the Duke but can't think at the moment.

Sheesh Shaun.......where have you been???......'a bit' went platinum within the first 10 weeks of release and is a favourite song at wedding receptions whistling.gif

Shaun must still be cold from his great canoeing adventure......his wife tried to tell him it was a bit too nippy to be out canoeing up and down the Thames, but alas her words fell on deaf ears.......twas only when Shaun actually got the canoe about 100 yards from shore and noticed his bright red mittens (which had gotten soaked whilst getting into the canoe) were frozen solid to the paddle that he began having second thoughts. His mother had been sure to attach both mittens with a long string that Shaun wore under his coat, up one sleeve, across his back and down the other sleeve, so this put him in a bit of a conundrum. Thankfully, as he had suckered 'J' into going with him, they were able to get back to shore in good time and 'J' was able to teather Shaun securely onto the car roof - paddle still frozen to his hands- and drive him home post hastey. biggrin.gif

My latest purchase is;

I miss watching this series on BBC TV.

Those guys from Bonanza were ahead of their time! I actually got a chance to go to Incline Village, Nevada and see the replica of the Ponderosa house. Lorene Greene, Michael Landon and a couple others went in together to build. Up until a few years ago it was open for tours. It was absolutely mezmerizing for me to touch the door handle Little Joe touched!

Steve and I were listening to Johnny Cash a week or so ago and he sang the words to the Bonanza theme song. I started making up my own words like: Never be a woman who falls in love on Bonanza. If you do your gonna get killed, no woman can survive. lol

Did you ever notice....no woman ever fell in love with any of them that didn't get killed, or she was a crook, or for some reason...she had to go?
The Ponderosa was not a good place for women! But I wanted to grow up and marry Little Joe.
I have several of the Episodes of Bonanza, Rawhide, The Guns of Will Sonnet, Laredo....I grw up with them all and still love to watch the classics.

But my latest purchase was the movie Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall...it is a good movie!

Very good(but also too short) cd there Steve!!
The American recordings where of the best work he did.
You can here him fading out with each volume... but he accepted that...

I like his version of "For the good times" a lot.
"Ain't no grave to hold my body down"...he sings in the title track,touching words by a great artist...

The backcoverpic is also very moving...
Looking out the window....

Yes Antje, it's the latest in the "American recordings" series...
And it's supposed to be the last studio album according the sticker on the cover...

Altough there are still songs circulating from the sessions on imports...
