is it for the quality or a great numbers of CD's/CDR etc; being an Elvis fan is important wheter you have 1 or 1000 cds.
I saw lists with concerts some people showed and on these lists were from the same concerts 3 or 4 titles availabe.
when you collect in this way you break records because it's possible to get 3-4000 and more cds.

Erm, I've got 28 Elvis CDs, and 19 vinyl albums and I thought that was a lot! Some of my vinyls are nice though.
I do also have 4,118 Elvis mp3's on my pc which is about 230 albums worth, so even thats not huge.
And I dunno how they got there, I think it mighta been pixies did it, but its ok cause they are only there as samples so I can decide whether I wanna buy the album or not when I get a proper job tongue.gif

I only have a handful of Elvis CDs but I've got a few hundreds CDs of other artists. When it comes to Elvis I prefer vinyls so I got around 200 Elvis vinyls.

Posted by: Don Michael Apr 22 2007, 08:05 PM

maybe to much 2000 or more Elvis CD's.
1500 other CD's by various singers and groups dance.gif

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Apr 26 2007, 11:37 AM

I just counted my collection. Well most of it.
I have 51 official CD albums.
I83 downloads on CDR's.
116 Vinyl albums.
8 12 inch EP's
100 vinyl singles

Total so far = 462

I have not counted my EP collection but will do later.
My collection is not that big but it's growing.
Some of the downloads are very good sound wise.
I don't like soundboard concerts. Not the ones recorded at the back of the audience.

I have another collection of various music CD's. Nearly 300.

I probably shouldn't say anything, but I'm VERY much against downloading FTD's... yes, I know, people say that they're
expensive, but if everyone would start downloading them, it would destroy the label, and then what? No more studio
outtakes in crystal clear quality, and no more never-before-heard concerts... soundboard or multi-track... now wouldn't
that be nice? I think we should support the label, as it's... I dare to say, one of the best things ever happened to Elvis fans.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Apr 27 2007, 08:30 AM

I like to buy the FTD albums when they are at the cheapest price online. There is no way I am spending £20 an album. Is FTD an official label like Sony/ BMG?
If you have no downloads, nobody would hear all those unreleased tracks and albums. There are others on here who downloads soundboard concerts. Why should we wait years for these releases. I like these downloads. For some of us it is expensive hobby if you tend to buy up every album that is released. Even if you got the greatests hits albums again and again.
As for FTD downloads I think fans should be allowed to download as it would make their mind up if they want to buy it. Not everyone is blessed with wealth (money).

Posted by: Gordon Apr 27 2007, 08:58 AM

you have good points there guys.....if possible we should support FTD...yes, possibly the greatest thing since Elvis' death.

But they are expensive and I for one am not wealthy at all....should i be deprived of listening to anything released on FTD? I don't think so.

If possible I would buy every single FTD release, but unfortunately..that is way out of sight.

FTD's are being produced under Sony/BMG, so yes, it's an official label.

Well, everyone who actually buys the albums can hear all the unreleased concerts, studio outtakes and what not.

I agree to a certain point. But if you mean that the fans should be allowed to download the full albums, so that they could make up their minds if they want to buy it or not, then no, no, no... that would NOT be a good idea. That would definitely lower FTD's sales figures, and if they don't do enough profit, do you really think they would continue releasing unreleased stuff just because the fans want it? I think not. It's ok if there are something like 30-45 second samples available of (some of) the songs on the albums... that should be enough for everyone to make up their minds.

Posted by: NightRider Apr 27 2007, 07:04 PM

I must agree with Jouni. FTD must be supported. Downloading them doesn't do that....and whether you have the money or not...downloading them does effect the sales and could put the label at risk....and i couldn't agree to that. If you buy anything....buy FTDS...... JMHO.

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Apr 27 2007, 08:02 PM

Why didn't FTD have a download page so you had to pay for the downloads?
When most are £17.98 an album I won't buy them until they low price online.

Then don't buy them. You still shouldn't be downloading them though.

This is not a "get at Frank" Frank.....anyone who downloads FTD's should think more seriously about it. One day, it could all be gone. Then what would we have ?

Personally, for what you get, i think that they are priced ok. But of course understand fully, that they could be better priced. The way to do that would be to put them on general release.....can't see that happening either...sadly.

Posted by: MattC Apr 28 2007, 01:58 AM

I think like everything else related to Elvis if they see a way to get peoples money then they're gonna do it. Up until the ftd label came out, here in the states, you hardly ever saw a cd going for damn near $30.00, the only time you did was when it was a 2 cd set. I've got about 34 or 35 original ftd cds, the rest are copies or mp3 files. I'd rather give my money to the import world. Alot more to choose from. Don't get me wrong, the ftd cds are cool and if I can ever get money to spend I will replace the copies I have with the originals. There's too many forums offering downloads of just about everything nowdays, so whether we like it or not, mp3 files are here to stay. Perhaps one day they will replace the audio cd all together

Posted by: curtis simpkins Apr 28 2007, 08:38 AM

I have a few cds, and i am getting starting to buy more Elvis cds,
all though i love Elvis music from the 50s and 60s even a few soundtracks.

and i do injoy Elvis music from the 70s but the 50s and 60s are my most play cds
and vinyl lps.

but i do try to buy everything that Elvis did from the 50s 60s and 70s
and i dont care that i have same o same old tracks that sony/bmg album releases

has long its Elvis.

and i also buy some Johnny Cash cds has well. but its mostly its Elvis.

Hello,

Not sure if you read what I posted a few days ago: http://elvis-tkc.com/forum2/index.php?showtopic=7724&st=10

We've never charged £20 for an FTD. The price is £15.99 post free to the UK, unless you are a qualifing member of the TKC (which you most certainly are), then it is even cheaper.

Cheers, Chris

Now to really make it interesting how many "original" factory pressed cds do you all own? Myself, I have maybe 200 if I am lucky...

Don't feel bad Gordon, compared to some on here my collection is very minute, lol

I counted my official Elvis CD's yesterday and I have 62 CD's and lost count on CDR's. I have over 300 Elvis vinyl records and I do miss playing them.
The rarest EP's I bought was the Tickle Me V 1 and Vol 2 on the black RCA label.

Posted by: hcvegas Sep 16 2007, 06:31 PM

It's funny what you do in your young days of being a Elvis fan, I actually paid one hundred and twenty dollars for the LP "Rockin' with Elvis new years eve, pittsburgh, pa. dec. 31, 1976. Great Lp but I don't even have a Lp player now and still have the LP.

I bought that 2 LP set on Ebay a long time ago. It's still sealed. Don't remember how much I paid for it, I think around fourty dollars. But then I discovered the wonderful world of imports!

Posted by: Suspicious Minds Sep 20 2007, 08:44 AM

Why buy the records still sealed? I know some fans buy the records and don't bother playing them. To me they are not real Elvis fans. When I buy records I always play them to make sure they are not faulty. In the Uk you take back faulty goods and get it replaced. If you leave it too long you got faulty goods for good.

You will find that many collectors keep certain releases sealed purely from a collectors point of view Frank. I know i have several imports that i have never opened. Mainly as i already have the material on other releases, and they are nice to keep sealed and protected. Certainly doesn't mean your not a "real" fan.

Posted by: MattC Sep 20 2007, 01:45 PM

I keep them sealed really for two reasons, firstly because as long as they are sealed there's no way the vinyl will ever be hurt, though ring wear will occur on the covers, but that's better than having the music itself hurt. Secondly, I don't have a record player and haven't had one in about the last twenty years. I agree with Shaun, it doesn't mean a person is not a "real" fan. That phrase always gets under my skin. A person could have very little music on cd, vinyl, etc. and still be just as big of a fan as any of us

Yeah, there's all sorts of level of collector, and that's not neccessarily related to the level of fandom!

for that price it's possible that you have not the first original pressing but a counterfeit.
the first pressing was released in 1977 while the couterfeits are from the 80's.
the second pressing has a white random small banner.
for the import circle it has to be a gold awarded LP for sales wise but RIAA does not give that award.

for that $ 40 price; with $ 120,- it's likely an original.

Yep, you're making a very good point there Davy. Someone with a dozen Elvis CD's may be as devoted a fan as the longtime collector with thousands of CD's on his shelves. It's a matter of opportunity and economy... wiggle.gif

Still, it's fun to hear about other's collections... rolleyes.gif

Posted by: TCBEP Feb 13 2008, 07:42 AM

I've got about 500 cd's in total, not a huge amout when compared to other collections. It's kinda funny that a collection of 500 cd's in the Elvis world is not a huge amount, weird really.

Posted by: tce1977 Dec 7 2008, 07:03 PM

I have somewhere in the region of 500+ ELVIS cd's, I used have to have hundreds on vinyl also but I had to let it go to make space for my ever increasing cd collection which must be over 2,000 by now

Posted by: SunR2 Jan 18 2011, 08:31 AM

I have about 250 Elvis CD's. Sounds good but i've bought them during 20 years... That's about 1 CD/month. Here's the proof that even from a small income you can build up a relatively nice collection - during 20 years. dry.gif rolleyes.gif

Posted by: vern Jan 20 2011, 06:59 PM

i have about 1400 and always on the lookout for more and loving every minute of collecting them

Posted by: Johnny-Vegas Jan 25 2011, 09:05 AM

I have like over 500 or more I think including the freebies from the papers. winking0001.gif

I'm still in the process of sorting them out to see how many I actually own.

Well i have well over a thousand Elvis Cds....and i don't have a high percentage of whats available throughout the world....wouldn't like to make a guess either. Especially now that so much early material is a free for all - release wise undecided.gif

In some cases yes. But that is part of collecting. Don't forget that a big percentage of bootleg albums ( 1000's of them ) have concert recordings and session recordings. So you may get the same song, but every take of the song and in some cases hundreds of live versions. All of which are different to another to some extent notworthy.gif

I am actually a collector of Cds, as well as being a collector of his music. ( when finances allow that is) It makes sense to me to buy almost any Elvis CD, just because i collect them. If i don't have them..then i try to get them. Of course....there are limits. With the countless 50s compilations around now..i don't bother with many of those..but i do own some. It's like collecting anything....its what a collector does. biggrin.gif

I'm a little confused when it comes to what "collecting" means since I've come to TKC. There are so many compilations made by people on here, or compilations that are announced on here.. I can't keep track of what's officially out there for sale and official, or what's been made by fans just for the pleasure of creating! wacko.gif

So when you say 50s compilations... what're you talking about specifically?

I'm sorry, this is probably a silly question to you guys.. I'm just still trying to grasp a lot of stuff. confused.gif

Collecting, to me at least, means "real" releases and not CDrs etc. Some people collect those and thats fine too...just not for me. Because of the 50 year copyright laws...all Elvis' 50s releases....that were released in the 50s have now become public domain. This means that any company can release them. Hence..there have been thousands of 50s compilations released over the last few years from a number of different labels. Most are budget European labels that just release them over and over and over on different Cds. Most are really cheap to buy...and most aren't of interest in a way that they offer something different such as improved sound. Like i said...i do have some...but won't go into collecting that many of them. If i go for budget releases...it is usually those released in the 80s and 90s. Those companies had to have approval from Elvis' record company at the time. Well...most did winking0001.gif

Hope that explains it a little more Mae thumbup.gif

Do all songs and released material have a 50-year copyright law? Or is that a contractual agreement? Why would they do that, that seems kind of silly..

But I understand better now, thanks a lot! You guys are so patient with me hahaha bless your souls! blush.gif
